摘要:
A zero emissions fuel system includes a fuel tank fluidly interconnected with a fuel vapor containment and absorption canister. The canister is further interconnected with an engine intake manifold via a purge solenoid valve that controls the extent to which a vacuum in the intake manifold affects the canister. The canister is also interconnected with the ambient environment via at least one selectively operable valve. During normal operation of the engine, the purge solenoid valve allows the intake manifold to draw fuel vapor from the canister for consumption by the engine. At a predetermined vacuum pressure, the at least one valve opens, thereby allowing outside air to flow into the system through the vacuum relief valve to facilitate purging of the canister.

An evaporative emission control apparatus for a motor vehicle includes a fuel tank having a tank shell to store fuel therein, a canister disposed completely within the fuel tank to adsorb and temporarily store evaporative fuel generated in the fuel tank, and a bracket that is secured to the fuel tank to support the canister apart from the tank shell. The outer surface of the canister is set apart from the inner surface of the tank shell, so that the canister is less influenced by the environment temperature around the fuel tank, and so that the adsorption of the evaporative fuel is kept stable.

A two-stroke internal combustion engine having an air control arrangement which controls scavenging air flow during rapid engine acceleration to optimize the acceleration and maximum power output of the engine while maintaining low exhaust emissions from the engine. Desirably, the air control arrangement may comprise a valve that throttles the air passage to one half or less of its total flow area at a medium engine load or less and completely or fully opens at a medium engine load or more of the engine. Normally, the air control valve opens in unison with the throttle valve, but during rapid acceleration of the engine the air control valve opens later or more slowly than the throttle valve to control the supply of scavenging air to the combustion chamber of the engine thereby enhancing rapid acceleration of the engine.

A method is provided for accommodating the purge vapors from an evaporative emission control system of an automotive vehicle. The method includes a purge compensation model to identify the concentration of purge vapor entering the intake manifold of the engine of the automotive vehicle, identifying the source of the vapor as from the vapor collection canister or the fuel tank using a characteristic mapping of maximum concentration as a function of instantaneous flow and accumulated flow through a canister and uses this information to predict variations in vapor concentrations as a function of purge flow. The method also includes a purge control model which uses mode logic to identify an appropriate time to initiate a purge cycle, provides the flow conditions necessary for a learning portion of the purge compensation model and increases purge flow rates after the learning is complete to deplete the contents of the canister. The purge control model also manages the time spent with purge active (learning purge) and purge inactive (learning volumetric efficiency or EGR).

In an evaporated fuel processing apparatus, a fuel tank is communicated with a canister via a vapor passage. A canister temperature sensor is disposed around a purge port of the canister for detecting a temperature of the canister. When a large quantity of gas is supplied upon supply of the fuel to flow from the fuel tank to the canister, the peak value of the canister temperature is detected. The fuel adsorbing state within the canister is estimated on the basis of the canister temperature obtained subsequent to detection of the peak value.

The present invention provides an evaporated fuel system diagnostic apparatus. The evaporated fuel system diagnostic apparatus includes a malfunction determination unit which determines whether a malfunction occurs in an evaporated fuel system, by introducing a negative pressure of an intake passage into a fuel tank. An operating condition setting unit sets, when the malfunction determination unit has started the introduction of the negative pressure of the intake passage into the fuel tank, an operating condition of an internal combustion engine in a predetermined condition that causes the negative pressure of the intake passage to be within a predetermined pressure range. Further, the present invention provides a vehicle control apparatus for an automotive vehicle equipped with the evaporated fuel system diagnostic apparatus.

An air cleaner assembly includes an adsorber member disposed in a fluid passageway of the air cleaner assembly for eliminating pollutants from being discharged into the atmosphere contained within the air cleaner assembly. The adsorber member comprises a support and a silicate pollutant treating material free from zeolite disposed onto a surface of the support.

In a double-acting diaphragm pump, a diaphragm is provided to divide a pump body into two pump chambers. An electromagnetic-type reciprocating actuator is provided in a housing hermetically integrated with the pump body. Different from an electric-type pump, the actuator is integrally mounted on the double-acting diaphragm pump and an entire system is hermetically sealed. Therefore, even if the diaphragm is torn, fuel vapor is prevented from leaking outside. Additionally, four check valves are provided to control the discharge of vapor from a canister side to an engine side. These check valves may employ a reed to control vapor flow or a spring and plate to control flow. In addition, since the pump may be a double-acting type, a large discharge volume is obtained and the pump can be made smaller. The pump may also be a non double-acting type.

Gas containing fuel vapor is purged as purge gas from a canister to an intake passage through a purge line. An ECU computes purge flow rate, which is the flow rate of the purge gas, and computes vapor concentration, which is the concentration of the fuel vapor contained in the purge gas. The ECU obtains a concentration correction value in accordance with the rate of change of the computed purge flow rate. The ECU correct the computed vapor concentration by using the concentration correction value and by taking into consideration of the time at which the purge flow rate is computed and the time at which purge gas having the computed flow rate is drawn into the combustion chamber. The ECU sets the fuel supply amount in accordance with the computed purge flow rate and the corrected vapor concentration. As a result, the accuracy of the air-fuel ratio control during purging is improved.
