    摘要: The present invention relates to a method of carrying out blood tests. The invention is based on the finding that clinico-chemical blood parameters can be determined using not only blood serum but also blood plasma. Therefore, freshly taken blood samples, which are mixed with at least one thrombin inhibitor, can be used for determining both clinico-chemical parameters and hematological parameters. The clinico-chemical parameters can thus be determined using blood plasma, a separation of coagulable components being not required any more.

A modulator of coagulation may also be included. The coagulation activity of the blood of the patient in the presence of metal ions and an optional modulator is an indication of the presence or development of certain pathological conditions relating to the procoagulant activity of blood, including platelet function. The effect of metal ions on the viscosity of blood is also diagnostically useful.

    摘要: One method and apparatus for analyzing clotting characteristics of a blood sample includes the use of a non-linear equation having coefficients capable of being related to the underlying clotting processes. The non-linear equation is curve fit to a waveform of a clotting sample to provide values for the coefficients of the non-linear function. Once the coefficients are obtained, an inference engine may be used to evaluate the non-linear relationship between the coefficients and factor concentrations within the blood sample. Advantageously, the waveform of the actual sample may be detrended to extract a residual oscillatory component to aid in the determination of initial coefficients for simplifying the curve fit operation. The non-linear equation may additionally be used for providing simulated clotting waveforms for testing clot analysis instruments. A residual oscillatory component may advantageously be extracted from the clotting signal. The oscillatory components may be used to provide a high quality clot time indicator for the sample. In addition, the oscillatory component may be used to correct for clot anomalies by correlating the frequency of the oscillatory to various physical characteristics of the blood clot. The oscillatory component may be used to provide initial estimates for values of the coefficients of the logistic. The logistic, because it represents knowledge as to the underlying chemistry of the clotting process, may also be used to provide initial estimates for coefficients of the logistic, and may also be used to enhance the accuracy of existing polynomial template clot analysis techniques. The logistic model may also be used to verify the operation of clot analysis tools.

    摘要: A capillary hematocrit separation structure is included within a housing having a fluid inlet port, a reaction region, and a capillary pathway connecting the inlet port and the reaction region. The capillary pathway is dimensioned so that the driving force for the movement of liquid through the capillary pathway arises from capillary pressure. A plurality of obstructions are fixed in the capillary pathway, each obstruction having a concave portion facing toward the vented reaction region on the down stream side of the obstructions as viewed with reference to a liquid flowing from the inlet port to the reaction region. The capillary pathway in a hematocrit separation structure for a single drop sample size includes about 105 obstructions, each obstruction including a concave portion having a volume of between about 10−4 to 10−5 &mgr;l for selectively receiving hematocrit.

    摘要: The present invention provides methods for inhibiting blood clotting. In general, the methods include adding corn trypsin inhibitor (CTI) to blood or a blood product in an amount sufficient to inhibit the clotting. The CTI can be used alone or in combination with other anti-coagulants. In one aspect, the invention features plasma clotting assays featuring substantially prolonged clotting times. Clotting assays using whole or minimally altered blood are also provided. Further provided are methods for storing blood or blood products at low temperature with the CTI.
