Abstract: A method carried out by a system configured to analyze platelet aggregation includes retaining a ferromagnetic object at an elevation of a chamber in which a sample of blood or plasma is disposed. The ferromagnetic object is retained at the elevation for a period of time. The ferromagnetic object is then released from the elevation. The ferromagnetic object minimal position is measured following the release of the ferromagnetic object. The object minimal position may be correlated with amount of platelet aggregation in the sample.

Abstract: What is disclosed is a method for creating a database for determining a virtual reference value for a light transmission aggregometry measurement, comprising the following steps:
a. providing platelet-rich plasma “PRP” (17) of a reference blood sample;
b. performing a light transmission measurement with a first light wavelength and a second light wavelength (14), different from the first, on the PRP (17) of the reference blood sample;
c. providing platelet-poor plasma “PPP” of the reference blood sample;
d. performing a light transmission measurement on the PPP in order to determine a PPP reference value;
e. assigning the measurement result of step d to the measurement results of step b in a database;
f. repeating steps a to e for a plurality of reference blood samples.
The database obtained using this method makes it possible to determine a virtual reference value that is an excellent estimate of the PPP reference value. Once the database has been created, it is possible to determine virtual reference values of blood samples to be examined and perform LTA measurements using the virtual reference values, without the need to obtain PPP from the blood samples to be examined.-

Abstract: A system and method are provided for harvesting target biological substances. The system includes a substrate and a first and second channel formed in the substrate. The channels longitudinally extending substantially parallel to each other. A series of gaps extend from the first channel to the second channel to create a fluid communication path passing between a series of columns with the columns being longitudinally separated by a predetermined separation distance. The system also includes a first source configured to selectively introduce into the first channel a first biological composition at a first channel flow rate and a second source configured to selectively introduce into the second channel a second biological composition at a second channel flow rate. The sources are configured to create a differential between the first and second channel flow rates to generate physiological shear rates along the second channel that are bounded within a predetermined range.
