    摘要: An operating mechanism for a fluid blast circuit interrupter which is actuated by a single drive shaft and includes a toggle linkage for opening and closing the breaker contacts, and a cam and rachet assembly for opening and closing a gas supply valve. Upon initiation of an opening or closing operation, the cam is coupled to the drive shaft and rotated to open a normally closed, spring loaded, gas valve before the interrupter contacts are opened or closed, and to charge a cam return spring. After the interrupter contacts are fully opened or closed, the cam is disengaged from the drive shaft and returned to its neutral position by its return spring to allow the gas valve to reclose.

    摘要: This invention relates to a compressed-gas circuit breaker having two hollow, nozzle-shaped contacts arranged on a common axis and between which an arc is formed upon the disconnection of the breaker. The compressed-gas circuit breaker has an essentially cylindrical arcing electrode centrally disposed in at least one of the hollow contacts and set back within the nozzle opening which surrounds the gap. When the breaker is disconnected the arc is confined between the two contacts within the gap by the flow of the quenching medium and possibly other additional forces. If a strong blast of quenching medium is employed on the arc, according to the invention, to prevent the arc from drifting off the inner arcing electrode during such strong blasts because of increased quenching medium flow and additional forces, the arcing electrode is provided with insulating material on its cylindrical surface and a contact surface is formed on its end face for the arc.

    摘要: A switchgear plant includes a plurality of gas-pressurized switchgear sections each of which includes a high pressure chamber containing a contact switching section, a low pressure chamber connected to the high pressure chamber by a blast valve which opens upon contact separation to effect a flow of gas from the high pressure to the low pressure chamber, and gaspressurized insulating bulkhead chambers located adjacent the high and low pressure chambers and which include isolating switches connected in series with the switching contacts. Branch gas return pipes including pressure differential responsive oneway valves therein lead from the low pressure chambers to a common return pipe connected to the intake side of a compressor, and the outlet side of the compressor is connected to a common high pressure gas supply pipe from which branch pipes containing pressure differential responsive non-return valves lead to the high pressure chambers. Pressure monitors associated with the low pressure chambers control operation of the compressor and other pressure monitors associated with the high pressure chambers actuate a central control valve that connects the compressor outlet as well as a high pressure gas reservoir with the common high pressure gas supply pipe. A pressurized gas supply pipe common to all of the insulating bulkhead chambers is connected to a reserve gas cylinder through a control valve, branch pipes lead off from this supply pipe at each switchgear section to the insulating bulkhead chambers through pressure differential responsive non-return valves and pressure monitors associated with the insulating bulkhead chambers serve to actuate the valve controlling gas flow from the reserve gas cylinder to replenish gas which may have been lost from the insulating bulkhead chambers through leakage.

    摘要: A gas-blast interrupter unit has a hollow fixed contact and a hollow movable contact which, when engaged with the fixed contact provides a continuous passage. An exhaust valve is associated with the movable contact. A further exhaust valve is associated with the fixed contact and arranged to be opened automatically as a result of a reduction of pressure which occurs in the continuous passage when the other exhaust valve is opened. Thus, when the contacts begin to open, pressurized gas blasts through both the fixed and movable contacts and through their respective exhaust valves. A delay chamber is operable to restore the further exhaust valve to its closed position automatically after a predetermined time interval sufficient for arc extinction to take place.

    摘要: A gas-blast type of circuit interrupter is provided having an arcing chamber of insulating material with rows of lateral venting slots, serving as splitters. A cluster of stationary contact fingers within the arcing chamber make separating engagement with a tubular movable contact. A stationary hollow insulating arc plug is provided interiorly of the arcing chamber, within which gas is forced to flow. The arcing plug has lateral inlet slots provided therein, which emit arcing gas under pressure into the interior of the arcing chamber and laterally outwardly across the arc, and radially outwardly through the lateral slots provided in the stationary insulating arcing chamber. The arc is moved by the radial outward blast to be forced against the arcing splitters provided by the sidewalls of the stationary insulating arcing chamber. As an alternate arrangement, a side lateral dump is provided adjacent an elongated arcing contact finger, at which the arc is constantly drawn. This prevents the accumulation of stagnant ionized gases and arc products, which may otherwise accumulate in the pocket surrounding the annular stationary contact finger assembly.
