Abstract:
The present invention includes a first positioning assembly and a second positioning assembly respectively mounted on the bottom housing of the scanner. The first positioning assembly defines a first clamping groove, and the second positioning assembly defines a second clamping groove. A toothed belt is used to drive the chassis of the scanner to move reciprocally. The toothed belt includes a first end and a second end respectively locked in the first clamping groove of the first positioning assembly and the second clamping groove of the second positioning assembly. The toothed belt can be mounted directly, without having to additionally perform a working process, thereby reducing the machining processes, and thereby decreasing the cost of fabrication.
Abstract:
An automatic document feeder (ADF) used in a facsimile machine, photocopier or the like. A sheet path from a sheet inlet to outlet is defined by lower, intermediate and upper frames of the ADF. The sheet path is generally shaped like nullCnull when viewed laterally. The intermediate frame has a pivotable member that can be opened and closed, and a guide member for guiding a sheet passing over a platen glass. An elastic member is provided for biasing the guide member on the platen surface from a turning portion of the C-shaped sheet path. Therefore, it is possible to maintain a clearance between the platen surface and guide member and prevent the sheet from flapping. A retard roller is removably supported by the pivotable member so that replacing and maintenance of the retard roller is simplified. Further, the pivotable member is a one-piece element and made from resin. A plurality of ribs extending in a sheet feed direction are provided near the sheet inlet and/or outlet so that the weight of the automatic document feeder is reduced and movements of the sheets are facilitated.
Abstract:
A multifunction device having a pressure feed roller opposite a scanner that advances a sheet while holding it against the scanning glass and avoids sheets being caught by the pressure feed roller and prevents jams and shifts in the feed pitch using a retraction mechanism. The multifunction device 10 has a transportation path 15 for guiding the check P. Located along the transportation path 15 are print heads 21, 23 for printing on the check P, a scanner head 25 for scanning the printed side of the check P, scanner feed rollers 26 for advancing while pressing the check P against the scanner head 25, and a roller retraction mechanism 32 for retracting the scanner feed rollers 26 from the scanner head 25 to open the transportation path 15.
Abstract:
A scanner includes a gate to receive a media carrying an image to be scanned. A frame is movable toward and away from the gate between a scanning position and a retracted position spaced further away from the gate than the scanning position. A sensor and a lens mounted on the frame, which sensor and lens move with the frame between the scanning and retracted positions, so that the lens can focus at least part of an image in the gate onto the sensor. A method of scanning images is also provided.
Abstract:
A casing for an image reader includes wall which are welded together and thus the labor of assembly is reduced. The casing includes a main casing which accommodates the carriage and the like, and a secondary casing beneath the main casing which accommodates control circuits. Thus, the image reader may be used with various types of image processing devices, such as copy machines, scanners, or the like.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an optics module for a scanning device such as a portable scanner. The optics module includes an illumination source and guide that transmits light through an optical window of the scanning device casing before reflecting off of the object to be scanned. The reflected light from the object travels back through the optical window and a lens before reaching a photosensor for evaluation by an associated microprocessor. The optical window of the scanning device provides a recessed portion in the scanning device casing. The recessed portion of the window is formed using the functional components of the optics module to eliminate a piece of glass typically used within the optical window that can be easily scratched or broken and provides a loss during the illumination process. By using the functional components of the optics module to form the recessed optical window, manufacturing costs to secure and replace a typical glass window contained therein can be eliminated, size of the optics module is reduced, and any contaminates that gather around the optics module can be easily removed by the user.
Abstract:
A first slidable assembly provided in an image reading unit of a digital copier has the slider pieces attached to the frame of the slidable assembly body thereof so that the slider pieces will move sliding over the guide elements. The upper part of the slider piece is an insert portion which is fitted through a passage hole formed in the frame and has engaging portions that pass through the passage hole as being deformed and become engaged with the rim of the passage hole.
Abstract:
The present invention is to provide an image reader including a transparent substrate, which can be used effectively for an extended lifetime. The image reader comprises a transparent substrate and a stationary image pickup opposed to the transparent substrate for reading an image of an original document while the document is being transported between the transparent substrate and the stationary image pickup. The transparent substrate can be turned around and/or upside down relative to the image pickup in order to use the transparent substrate for an extended its service time. Also, the transparent substrate includes at least one first indicator showing an arrangement order how the transparent substrate has been turned around relative to the image pickup.
Abstract:
A card type image reader comprises a rectangular card base and a reinforcing member provided on one side of the card base. A photodetector array in a straight line is provided on one end portion of the reinforcing member and the card base holds control circuit means and memory means. The control circuit means reads information of an original through the photodetector array in synchronization with a clock signal and stores the read information into the memory means.
Abstract:
A hand-held scanner, namely, a hand-operated optical reader, capable of selectively and partially reading a necessary portion of a document. The hand-held scanner is equipped with a speed control device capable of producing a load for controlling the moving speed of the hand-operated scanning unit for approximate uniform motion to enable a compact and inexpensive apparatus to reproduce an original picture easily and accurately.
