Abstract: In accordance with the following description, an optical communication connector includes a ferrule having retractable alignment pins that are actuable between an extended position and a retracted position. For example, the connector may include an inner housing assembly having optical fibers and an outer housing positioned over the inner housing assembly. The outer housing is shaped to be removable from the inner housing assembly, which has a movable pin clamp mechanically coupled to alignment pins for aligning the connector with another connector. The pin clamp may be slid from a first position (corresponding to a male gender) to a second position (corresponding to a female gender). Separately or in combination with changing gender, the polarity of a communication connector may be changed due to its inclusion of an asymmetric polarity-changing feature that is actuable by an installer to change a polarity of the communication connector. Such a feature may be actuated by being moved from a first position to a second position relative to the communication connector.

Abstract: The present invention provides modular trays having cutout features that are configured to engage with a mounting feature of one or more removable rails. The removable rails may be removably secured to a tray body in a plurality of positions to allow a user to install or uninstall rails to support different sized fiber optic modules. For example, a tray may support a twenty-four optical fiber module, two twelve optical fiber modules, or three eight optical fiber modules. Fiber optic enclosures housing the trays can be affixed to the outside of a fiber optic enclosure and allow for easy stacking and unstacking.

Abstract: A cable manager connected to a network rack that routes cables in and around the network rack. The cable manager includes a body with plurality of fingers extending from the body. Abstract: A mechanism used to select a label size to be applied to a cable in a label applicator. The mechanism includes an index plate, an index arm, and a wedge carrier. The index arm is pivotably mounted to the index plate and the wedge carrier is mounted to the index plate. The wedge carrier has guide rollers that dictate a label path. The index arm moves the index plate which linearly moves the wedge carrier thereby adjusting the label path in the label applicator.

Abstract: A method for determining if a graded-index glass optical multimode fiber has a refractive index profile that will compensate modal dispersion with chromatic dispersion when used in an optical channel having a multimode vertical cavity surface emitting laser has at least two weighting functions. The functions are used to compute the relative mode group delays over two radial offset regions within the core of the optical fiber. The peak group delay of the of the higher-order fiber mode distribution is less than the peak group delay of the lower-order mode distribution.
