Abstract:
The disclosure is made in a fruit packing house, but the concept is applicable to any packing where multiple units are packed into containers and moved from a packing station to a shipping destination. The system employs computer techniques to identify the packer, container type, contents and other managerial information, by use of a single readable code label placed on a container.
Abstract:
Rows of rectangular bins for crop storage have open tops along which an overhead shuttle carriage moves for filling the bins one at a time. An auger on the carriage removes the contents from the incoming conveyor belt for deposit in an assigned bin. An array of declined baffles positioned in the path of the falling product buffers the fall. A product support over the discharge auger minimizes the product bridging effect between the vertical walls of the bin.
Abstract:
A stabilizing system stabilizes articles carried on conveyors for automated bulk processing equipment. In a preferred embodiment, a flow of gas (e.g., air) is projected along a conveyor belt in a direction generally parallel to that in which articles are carried by the belt. The air flow has a velocity (i.e., speed and direction) substantially the same as that of the belt to reduce aerodynamic resistance that would otherwise bear against the articles. As a result, the articles may be transported on the conveyor belt at high speeds with substantially increased stability or throughput.
Abstract:
A supply container holds a large amount of citrus fruits from which juice is to be pressed out which fruits are to leave one after the other the supply container through an opening. In order to transport the citrus fruits a partial area of the floor surface located in the center of the container of the otherwise inclined rising floor surface is formed by a plurality of parallel rollers located side by side. All have a non-circular cross-section with a circumferential shape composed of three convexly domed circumferential sections and are driven in the same sense of rotation and the same angular position, such that citrus fruits which rest on the rollers are transported in a direction towards the exit opening. Because the citrus fruits located in a plurality of layers in the supply container are apt to form a bridge due to the consistence of their surfaces the entire amount of citrus fruits positioned in the container is additionally kept moving by pistons which move up and down between the fruits, which pistons project upwards through the inclined rising floor surface adjacent the row of rollers. At both sides of the row of rollers three pistons are respectively mounted to a rail extending under the bottom floor. The two rails are interconnected at one of their ends by a pivot axis. Rotating cams which are positioned under the rails and on an axis of one of the driven rollers cause the up and down movement of the rails and the pistons.
Abstract:
A conveyor for arranging articles (9) which comprises a plurality of rollers (5) arranged side-by-side and means for rotating the rollers such that each roller can be rotated at a different rate from rollers adjacent to it. By appropriate selection of the rate of rotation of the rollers of the conveyor, articles supplied to the conveyor randomly can be arranged, for example aligned in rows (10).
Abstract:
An improved filling system for containers of mixtures of liquid and solid material where the liquid/solid ratio is critical is disclosed. A prior art problem was that sticky solid material would adhere to the receptacle or bucket in which it was delivered to a filling chute or funnel and it would also stick to the funnel. This problem is solved by putting the sticky solid in the buckets and by using the liquid to flush the funnel and by using an air jet to remove any remaining particles from the buckets which are upturned over the funnel. Alternately, a part of the liquid may be placed in the delivery bucket and when it is tilted or turned upside down to fill the container the remaining part of the liquid is used to rinse the receptacle. The filling system is especially useful for soups containing noodles or other pasta products.
Abstract:
An off-loading conveyor including a support structure mounting an endless chain to extend along a conveying path. Roller carriages including roller mounts and laterally extending elements are pivotally mounted to the chain on either side thereof. The laterally extending elements and the laterally extending rollers define cavities for receipt of conveyed product units. The roller carriages and associated rollers are positionable in a first, conveying position and a second, off-loading position. The roller carriages rotate downwardly about axes extending laterally of the chain to achieve the second, off-loading position. Control members pivotally mounted to the chain selectively control rotation of the roller carriages from the first to the second positions upon actuation by a solenoid cam mechanism.
Abstract:
Off-loading conveyors having endless roller chains to which are mounted bow tie rollers on rods extending laterally from the chain. The bow tie rollers define concavities for receipt of product units to be conveyed and off-loaded at an appropriate station. Off-loading elements are mounted to the chains which include paddles extending to between the bow tie rollers. The off-loading elements include levers which cooperate with an actuation system to pivot the paddles through the concavities to remove product at appropriate stations.

Abstract:
A bucket conveyor system 13 for a harvesting machine which can move along a row of plants. The bucket conveyor system has a pair of parallel endless roller chains 18 guided for movement along a generally rectangular path 17, and open-topped buckets 19 connected to the chains 18 at equally spaced intervals along the chains. The buckets each have a rear lip 36 extending over and beyond the front wall 32 of the next rearward bucket 19 to prevent gaps through which harvested fruit or juice can fall. The sole connection of the buckets 19 to the chains 18 is by a single shaft 44 projecting outward from the upper end of each side wall 31 of the buckets. As a bucket 19 is elevated, a fixed vertical bucket guide 27c engages a substantially vertical front wall 32 of the bucket to keep the bucket erect, with the engagement of the bucket guide 27c with the bucket wall 32 being at a substantial distance from the pivot connections 44 of the bucket to the chains to minimize stress in the bucket. As a bucket is tilted for discharge, a fixed curved bucket guide 27d engages the upper edge 37 of the bucket to cause its gradual inversion, with the engagement of the curved bucket guide 27d with the bucket edge 37 being at a substantial distance from the pivot connections 44 of the bucket to the chains to minimize stress in the bucket.
Abstract:
Fragile objects such as items of fruit are transferred from a receptacle conveyor to a transport belt by a rotary brush transverse to the conveyor and having bristles allowing formation of a cavity in the brush to receive the object when it falls from its receptacle, and a fixed brush facing the rotary brush to hold the object in its cavity until the object is deposited, without horizontal velocity, on the transport belt.
