When located proximate to a coil end, the step extends out of the plane in which the coil end lies. One or more steps may alternatively be formed intermediate to helical turns of the helical coil body.

    摘要: There is provided an innerspring assembly used in a mattress for absorbing external loads. An outermost coil spring 115 of a spring array 110 is secured in a space between upper and lower border wires 120 and 120′ by pins 140, and helical coils 130 are disposed in row directions R on upper and lower portions of the spring array 110 to knit an adjacent coil spring 115, such that each coil spring has a free terminal convolution 115a protruded from an upper portion of the upper border wire 120 and/or a lower portion of the lower border wire 120′. The spring assembly includes an enclosure 10 partially or fully provided on an upper end portion and/or an lower end portion of the coil spring for covering the terminal convolution 115a in the row direction R or column direction L, thereby interrupting interference between the terminal convolution 115a and the upper and/or lower border wire 120 and 120′ and absorbing a lateral load applied to the terminal convolution. A padding member is not damaged by the terminal convolution, and a contact resistance between the upper border wire and the terminal convolution is absorbed to block a frictional noise.

    摘要: A mattress spring core having a plurality of zones of differing firmnesses due to different characteristics of helical lacing connectors within the particular zones. The spring core has a plurality of identical coil springs arranged in side-by-side transversely extending rows and columns. The coil springs are connected together at the upper and lower ends of the springs with helical lacing connectors which encircle a portion of the upper and lower faces of the springs. The helical lacing connectors may be of a heavier gauge wire in one or more zones of the mattress spring core thus causing that particular zone to be of an increased firmness relative to the other zones of the mattress. Alternatively, the helical lacing connectors within a zone may comprise two or more co-axial lacing wires to impart greater strength or rigidity to one or more zones of the mattress.

    摘要: A spring interior comprising a plurality of longitudinally extending bands of springs disposed side by side and connected together by helical lacing wires in the top and bottom faces of the bands. Each band of springs comprises a single length of wire formed into a plurality of substantially vertical coils of springs interconnected by interconnecting segments of wire located alternately in the top and bottom faces of the bands. Each interconnecting segment comprises a longitudinally extending bridging portion, a pair of transversely extending end portions, and a transversely extending support structure. The corners defined by the intersections between the bridging portions and the end portions of the interconnecting segments are radiused by radii of differing dimension so as to colinearly align the bridging portions of each band of springs. The support structure of the edgemost bands may be wrapped about the border wire to secure the border wire to the spring interior, and the end portion of the endmost interconnecting segments may be wrapped about the border wire for the same purpose.

    摘要: A method and apparatus are provided for assembling innerspring constructions from rows of pocketed coil springs. The apparatus includes a surface for supporting the rows and a pressure plate which compresses them slightly while holding them in straight lines. After each row is positioned between the surface and the plate, a hot melt applicator is passed thereby and deposits a selected amount of bonding material to the fabric encasing each coil spring. New rows are pushed into contact with the treated rows and each displaces them by about one coil spring diameter. A plurality of rows are maintained under compression at all times to insure they remain in alignment with adequate frictional contact therebetween. A bar having markings corresponding to each pocketed coil spring within a row is mounted to the apparatus. A beam switch or the like is provided for detecting these markings and actuating the applicator at a selected time as it passes each spring.

    摘要: A machine for connecting successive rows of coil springs together into a coil spring assembly. The machine, in preferred form, initially picks up a row of coil springs by inserting a pick up finger into the barrel of each coil and moving the springs onto a support platen. In the course of transporting the coils between pick up and the support platen, the pick up fingers change the spacing of the coils. The springs are then compressed against the support platen to a desired height through use of a reciprocable compression bar. Thereafter, and through use of rotatable transfer fingers on a transfer shaft, the springs are removed from under the compression bar, and are moved into clamping dies. Leading rotary transfer fingers on the transfer shaft first pull the row of springs out from under the compression bar, and trailing rotary fingers then push the springs into the downstream one of upper and lower clamping dies. If a leading row of coil springs are already present in the clamping dies, the rows of clamping dies clamp together the upper and lower end loops of the leading and trailing rows of coil springs. The rows of springs are then connected together by helical lacing wires while clamped between the clamping dies.
