Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for a system for transferring data according to various aspects of the present invention operate in conjunction with a network configured to transfer data files among clients of the network. A client may receive a file from network, in multiple file segments from the multiple sources. The client may assemble the file segments into a proper sequence, and provide the assembled file to the file-using program.
Abstract:
A device for dissecting tissue and/or guidance of a second device to a desired physiological location, the device comprising: an elongate shaft comprising a proximal portion and a distal portion, wherein the distal portion comprises a plurality of segments that articulate with respect to one another; and a handle attached to the proximal portion of the shaft, wherein the handle comprises controls for articulating the plurality of segments of the distal portion of the shaft with respect to one another. A system for dissecting tissue and/or guiding a medical device to a desired physiological location.
Abstract:
An on-demand four wheel drive system for a vehicle having a front drive train, a rear drive train, and a transfer case. The system includes a sensor system operable to detect the speed of the front drive train and the speed of the rear drive train. The system also includes a controller operable to cause the transfer case to supply input torque to the front drive train and the rear drive train when the sensor system detects that the speed of the rear drive train exceeds the speed of the front drive train by a predetermined amount. The controller is further operable to cause the transfer case to limit the amount of input torque supplied to the front drive train when the sensor system detects that the speed of the front drive train exceeds the speed of the rear drive train.
Abstract:
An elevator system (20) includes a cab (22) supported for movement within a hoistway. A plurality of cab-supported sheaves (36, 42) moves with the cab through the hoistway. A first hoistway sheave (38) is located near a first end of the hoistway, and a second hoistway sheave (40) is located near a second end of the hoistway. A load bearing member (30) is provided, which (i) extends from near the first end of the hoistway toward the cab, where the load bearing member is redirected by one of the plurality of cab-supported sheaves toward the first end of the hoistway, (ii) at least partially wraps around each of the first hoistway sheave and the second hoistway sheave, and (iii) extends from near the second end of the hoistway toward the cab, where the load bearing member is redirected by another of the plurality of cab-supported sheaves toward the second end of the hoistway. A tension device (44) maintains tension in the load bearing member.
Abstract:
One method involves payment of money to a recipient traveling to one or more foreign countries by entering into a remote computer money transfer information from a sender. The money transfer information comprises recipient identification information, at least one country where the money is to be received, and a payment amount in an originating currency. The money transfer information is transmitted to a host computer system. When ready to receive payment in the designated country, recipient identification information along with a request to withdraw a portion of a possible payment amount is entered into a payout computer. The recipient identification information and the request to withdraw is transmitted to a host computer system, and the requested withdrawal is provided to the recipient in the local currency.
Abstract:
Devices are provided having an anode, a cathode, and an emissive layer disposed between and electrically connected to the anode and the cathode. The emissive layer includes an emissive material having more than one metal center. In one embodiment, first and second metal centers are independently selected from the group consisting of d7, d8, and d9 metals. A bridging ligand is coordinated to the first metal center and to the second metal center. In one embodiment, the first and second metal centers each have coordination numbers of at least 3, and more preferably each have coordination numbers of 4. In one embodiment, photoactive ligands are coordinated to the first and second metal centers. In one embodiment, there are no photoactive ligands. In one embodiment, a charge neutral bi-nuclear emissive material is provided. In one embodiment the first and metal centers have a co-facial configuration, and preferably a square planar co-facial configuration. In one embodiment, the metal centers are selected from metals having an atomic number greater than or equal to 40.
Abstract:
According to the invention, a method for creating an electronic greeting card that references a gift is disclosed. In one step, a selection of the electronic greeting card is received from a sender of that greeting card. Identification of the gift is received. A code indicative of the gift is created, whereby the code facilitates retrieving information about the gift. The code is embedded in the electronic greeting card.
Abstract:
A method of transferring funds includes providing a first kiosk having a negotiable instrument acceptor. The negotiable instrument acceptor is configured to acquire information from a negotiable instrument. The method further includes providing a first kiosk access device to a first customer. Providing the first kiosk access device includes receiving and storing personal information associated with the first customer. The method also includes, at the first kiosk, acquiring access information from the first kiosk access device, based at least in part on the access information, determining whether to provide access to the kiosk, via the negotiable instrument acceptor, receiving a negotiable instrument, acquiring negotiable instrument information from the negotiable instrument, and, based at least in part on the negotiable instrument information, determining whether to provide the customer access to value represented by the negotiable instrument.
Abstract:
One method for transferring funds includes receiving at a web server computer a request to transfer funds from a sender to a receiver. The request includes information identifying the sender and a payment vehicle for providing funds to transfer. The payment vehicle is validated and a transaction identifier is generated or assigned. The transaction identifier may be transmitted from the web server computer to the sender. When ready to receive the funds, the transaction identifier is entered into an ATM. If the transaction identifier is validated, the funds are dispensed from the ATM.
