Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described that involve determining multiple beamformed transmission beams for transmission of an opportunistic or multi-beam discovery reference signal (DRS) over a shared radio frequency spectrum band. The base station may determine a contention exempt transmission (CET) period for the shared spectrum band and transmit the DRS using multiple transmission beams during CET period or the base station may perform a listen before talk (LBT) procedure, and transmit, based on the LBT procedure, the DRS over a shared radio frequency spectrum band. The base station may transmit an indication of the type of DRS transmission, a subframe offset, random access configurations, and/or error correcting codes to enable a user equipment to discover, connect to, and acquire timing information associated with the network.

Abstract: Disclosed techniques provide for different uplink resource allocation schemes in transmissions that use different shared radio frequency spectrum bands. In some cases, the different shared radio frequency spectrum bands may have different transmission characteristics or parameters, and associated resource allocation schemes may be selected to provide transmissions that are more likely to comply with the transmission characteristics or parameters associated with a particular band. In some cases, resource allocation types may be identified based on one band and mapped to identify uplink resources for an uplink transmission on a different shared radio frequency spectrum band.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A transmitting wireless device may select a direction for a wireless transmission over a channel The transmitting wireless device may monitor an availability of the channel in the selected direction for a duration of a first channel listening time corresponding to the selected direction. The transmitting wireless device may determine that the channel is available in the selected direction based on either an absence of channel reservation messages during the monitoring, or a first channel reservation message received during the monitoring. The first channel reservation message may indicate a permissibility of a simultaneous transmission in the selected direction. The transmitting wireless device may transmit a second channel reservation message to a receiving wireless device over the channel in the selected direction based on the determination that the channel is available in the selected direction.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Resources for narrowband communication in an unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band may be configured and allocated based on resource availability, regulatory constraints, and device capability or category. A narrowband wireless device, such as a machine type communication device or other relatively low complexity device, may communicate using one or more narrowband carriers, which may occupy between one tone and multiple resource blocks in an unlicensed spectrum band (e.g., any number of resources between one (1) tone and multiple resource blocks (RBs)). Different device types may thus be configured differently as they move between geographic regions. The base station may then communicate with the narrowband mobile device based on the resource allocation and the carrier configuration.

Abstract: A base station (BS) may communicate with a user equipment (UE) using a subset of channels. The BS may select a subset of a set of channels for use in communication with the UE. The BS may transmit, to the UE, a signal to identify the subset of channels. In some aspects, the BS may transmit, and the UE may receive, a channel list indicator identifying the subset of channels. The channel list indicator may include an integer value, which the UE may use to identify a subset of combinatorial factors. Based at least in part on the subset of combinatorial factors, the UE may identify the subset of the set of channels for use in communication with the BS. The UE may communicate with the BS using at least one of the subset of the set of channels, such as in a frequency hopping communication system and/or the like.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A contending wireless device may transmit a reservation request signal on the channel during a gap period associated with the channel. The contending wireless device may monitor for a reservation challenge signal resource associated with the gap period for a reservation challenge signal. A challenging wireless device may receive the reservation request signal and determine an interference risk based at least in part on the reservation request signal. The challenging wireless device may transmit a reservation challenge signal over a reservation challenge signal resource associated with the gap period based at least in part on the determination. The contending wireless device may selectively perform a transmission on the channel based at least in part on a result of the monitoring.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A base station may communicate with multiple user equipments (UEs) in a wireless system supporting directional transmission in shared spectrum (e.g., in millimeter wave (mmW) spectrum). The base station may contend for the channel (e.g., using a listen-before-talk (LBT) procedure) and, upon success, transmit a directional channel reservation (CR) signal to each of the multiple UEs. The CR signal may reserve the channel for a specific time period and indicate a start time, an end time, or both. The UE may respond with another CR transmission. In some examples, the base station may transmit CR signals to each of the UEs in a single burst transmission. In other examples, the base station may transmit CR signals to the UEs sequentially, so that if a UE does not respond, the reserved time may be allotted to another UE.

The wireless device may selectively enable an LBT procedure on a per-beam basis according to the determined beam-specific LBT requirement for each beam configuration.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide for refinement of receive beam beamforming parameters at a user equipment (UE). A UE may transmit two or more signals in an uplink transmission that have different beamforming parameters. A base station receiving the uplink transmission may measure the two or more signals, and identify a first signal of the two or more signals based at least in part on the measuring. The base station may inform the UE of the identified first signal, which the UE may use to set receive beam beamforming parameters for one or more subsequent downlink transmissions.

Abstract: Techniques for reservation coordination on a shared communication medium are disclosed. An access point, for example, may contend for access to a communication medium, and transmit a channel reservation message in accordance with a first Radio Access Technology (RAT) to reserve the communication medium for a transmission opportunity (TXOP) duration based on the contending. The access point may then transmit, during the reserved TXOP duration, a reservation coordination signal in accordance with a second RAT to convey reservation coordination information associated with the reserved TXOP duration.
