    Abstract: A portable communication device operating in a covert mode including an electronic processor that detects a presence of a wireless audio accessory. The portable communication device receives and transmits audio data to the wireless audio accessory. The electronic processor monitors a signal quality of the wireless link and a continued presence of the wireless audio accessory and determines whether the portable communication device is operating in a covert operation mode. Responsive to determining that the portable communication device is operating in the covert operation mode and determining, via the monitoring, that the signal quality of the wireless link has fallen below a threshold or that the wireless audio accessory is no longer present: receiving, at the portable communication device, subsequent audio data, recording the subsequent audio data, and refraining from outputting the subsequent audio data via a speaker of the portable communication device.

    Abstract: A device and method to determine incoming communications is provided. A device in communication an array of antenna devices determines respective quality metric weights for respective signal data representing respective signals received by the antenna devices. The device applies the respective quality metric weights to the respective signal data to determine total received signal data. The device determines, based on the total received signal data, that the array of the antenna devices has received an incoming communication.

    Abstract: A device and method for convoy navigation is provided. An audio device comprises: a memory; a speaker; a communication interface; a location determining device; and a controller. The controller: receives, from a second audio device, via the communication interface, on a narrowband communication channel, audio information and an associated location of the second audio device, the associated location indicative of where the second audio device transmitted the audio information; stores, at the memory, the audio information and the associated location; tracks, using the location determining device, a current location of the audio device; and when the current location of the audio device is at about the associated location, controls the speaker to play the audio information.

    Abstract: A method and cloud service provide for upgrading a cloud component that is operably coupled to Land Mobile Radio (LMR) infrastructure equipment. A second cloud component is installed to replace a first cloud component. The first cloud component and the second cloud component operating simultaneously. The cloud service determines a first group of radios that are affiliated to a first talkgroup and a second group of radios that are affiliated to a second talkgroup, these radios currently utilizing the first cloud component. The cloud service prioritizes the first group of radios and the second group of radios to migrate to the second cloud component to obtain a first prioritized group and a second prioritized group. Each radio of the first prioritized group is migrated to the second cloud component before each radio of the second prioritized group.

    Abstract: A grille configured for shielding a microphone cavity. The grille includes a first side. The first side includes a first plurality of parallel slats defining a first plurality of channels extending along a first direction. The grille includes a second side opposite the first side. The second side includes a second plurality of parallel slats defining a second plurality of channels extending along a second direction at a first angle relative to the first direction. The first plurality of parallel slats and the second plurality of parallel slats define a lattice having a plurality of openings extending through the grille. The openings are configured to diffuse air moving across the lattice. The channels and slats are configured to induce capillary action on water coming in contact with the lattice to drain water from the openings and the microphone cavity.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for a graphical user interface system are provided. The graphical user interface system includes one or more display devices that provide a passive display space, an active display space, and an exchange area. The active display space and the exchange area are provided on a single display device. One or more objects are displayed in the passive display space and a visual representation of each object of the one or more object is displayed in the exchange area. A selection is received in the exchange area of a visual representation of a first object displayed in the passive display space. In response to receiving the selection, the first object is displayed in the active display space. While displayed in the active display space, the first object is operable in response to commands received through the graphical user interface system.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining and remedying audio quality issues in a voice communication. One example electronic computing device includes an electronic processor configured to receive, via a communication interface, a voice communication including a request from a communication device. The electronic processor is also configured to perform an analysis of the voice communication. The analysis includes disambiguating the voice communication. The electronic processor is also configured to store a profile of the voice communication associated with a state of the communication device in a history of profiles, when disambiguating the voice communication is successful. When disambiguating the voice communication fails, the electronic processor determines whether the voice communication is associated with a profile in the history of profiles. When the voice communication is not associated with a profile, a command is transmitted to the communication device to modify a transmission transport mechanism and retransmit the request.

    Abstract: An improved antenna configuration for a communication device is provided that enables ultra wideband operation. The antenna may be formed of two sections, a primary section built into the communication device and a replaceable secondary section disposed on a data card. The primary section is common for all frequency bands of operation which the antenna is intended to cover. The replaceable secondary section is unique to predetermined frequency bands and provides tuning for the overall antenna. A data card tray antenna configuration is also provided which is suitable for a stand-alone antenna or as part of a sectional antenna.
