    Abstract: An image reading device comprising: a document placing portion; a conveyor; a reading unit configured to read an image of the document, wherein the reading unit includes: an image sensor; a support which supports the image sensor, wherein in the case of reading the image of the document conveyed by the conveyor, the support is to be stopped at a predetermined reading position; a guide; and a driving unit, wherein the reading unit further includes: a release unit configured to release the contact with the guide by separating the support from the guide when the support is moved toward the predetermined reading position; and a contact portion configured to contact with the support separated from the guide by the release unit when the support is moved toward the predetermined reading position.

    Abstract: An illuminator, a scanner module and an image scanning apparatus are provided. The scanner module includes an illuminator that includes a light source, a light guide extending in a main scanning direction to change a direction of the light from the light source, a guide holder recessed with a light guide mounting portion in which the light guide is mounted, and at least one supporting protrusion protruding from an entrance of the light guide mounting portion into the light guide mounting portion to support the light guide received in the light guide mounting portion. As the light guide is supported by the supporting protrusion formed at the entrance of the light guide mounting portion, it is possible to reduce deformation of the light guide and/or to prevent the light guide from being falling out of the light guide mounting portion when subjected to, e.g., a shock.

    Abstract: An image forming apparatus to form an image on a recording medium is provided. The image forming apparatus includes a housing, an image forming unit, an image reader unit, an ejecting space to catch the recording medium, a pickup opening to expose the ejecting space, and a frame assembly to hold the image forming unit and the image reader unit. The housing includes an operation unit, which is configured to form an upper edge of the pickup opening. An enhancement member extending along a widthwise direction to bridge over the ejecting space is arranged in a lower position in the operation unit. The frame assembly includes a first support member and a second support member, which are arranged in widthwise ends of the ejecting space. The enhancement member is connected to the first support member and to the second support member at the widthwise ends thereof.

    Abstract: An image reading device includes: an original table having a stationary original reading area and a moving original reading area on its top surface; an image reading unit provided inside the original table and moving the reading line in the direction of the width of the stationary original reading area and to the moving original reading area with the direction of the length of the stationary original reading area as the reading line; an original cover openably and closably provided on the original table so as to cover at least the stationary original reading area; and an ADF having an original conveyance path leading from an original tray by way of the moving original reading area to an original output tray. The image reading device reads originals of sizes larger than the readable stationary original size without any size increase of the device.

    Abstract: A scanner is disclosed. The scanner has a flatbed glass and an ADF glass mounted to a top cover with a gap formed between the two glass pieces. The scanner has a scanner module that has an ADF scan position underneath the ADF glass and a flatbed scan position underneath the flatbed glass. When the scanner module is in the flatbed scan position the scanner module references the flatbed glass. The scanner module crosses the gap between the two glass pieces when the scanner module moves from the flatbed scan position to the ADF scan position. The scanner module is lowered away from the flatbed glass as the scanner module approaches and moves across the gap between the two glass pieces.

    Abstract: A scanner includes a base and a scanning module. The base includes a bottom panel and a sliding portion extending from the bottom panel. A sliding slot is defined in the sliding portion. The sliding slot defines a longer side surface and a first shorter side surface extending from the longer side surface. A plurality of first teeth slots is defined in the longer side surface and a plurality of second teeth slots defined in the shorter side surface. The scanning module includes a loading panel and a driving module. The driving module includes a worm gear assembly engaging the first teeth slots and is capable of moving along the longer side surface. The worm gear assembly engage the plurality of second teeth slots to prevent the scanning module from moving when the scanning module moves to the first shorter side surface along the longer side surface.
