Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may refrain from transmitting channel state information (CSI) if the CSI is configured to be transmitted during an inactive discontinuous reception (DRX) duration. The UE may determine that the CSI is configured to be transmitted during the inactive DRX duration based on determining that some or all of the configured time slot for transmitting the CSI occurs while the UE is operating in the inactive DRX duration. The UE may transmit feedback information, such as an acknowledgement (ACK), whether or not the UE drops the CSI.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may autonomously initiate a handover procedure and select a target base station for the handover procedure. The UE may measure a signal from the source base station or the target base station, or both, and the UE may determine whether specific criteria at both base stations are within a pre-configured range. If the criteria at both base stations are within the pre-configured range, the UE may identify the target base station as a potential candidate for a handover. Accordingly, when the UE determines that radio conditions with the source base station are deteriorating (or fall below a threshold), the UE may initiate a handover to the target base station autonomously and without specific direction from the source base station.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A periodic reception mode may be activated for a user equipment (UE), such as by receiving an activation signal. The UE may be configured with or otherwise determine a periodic schedule associated with the periodic reception mode. The base station may combine multiple packets of data and may transmit the combined data packet in accordance with the periodic schedule. The UE may identify a duration for an active state and a duration for an idle state based on the periodic schedule. The UE may monitor a control channel in accordance with a duration for the active state associated with the periodic reception mode and may sleep in accordance with a duration for the idle state associated with the periodic reception mode.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may implement a power-efficient discovery procedure to establish a relay. In some cases, the UE may monitor a resource pool for a relay beacon from a relay device and measure a received power of the relay beacon. If the received power satisfies a threshold, the UE may monitor for a relay announcement from the relay device and establish a sidelink connection with the relay device based on the relay announcement. The relay beacon may support a two-stage discovery procedure, where the UE determines a relay device is available before processing a relay announcement to conserve power. Additional techniques for proximity-based discovery are described herein.

The UE may determine a grant for performing uplink transmissions based on a radio resource control (RRC) message. The UE may determine, based on the downlink configuration, the grant, or both, an uplink configuration including a set of resources for transmitting the uplink transmissions at a set of uplink transmission occasions. In some aspects, the set of uplink transmission occasions may be arranged according to a non-uniform spacing pattern in a time domain. The UE may transmit, to a base station, one or more uplink transmissions based on the uplink configuration.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. An example of a method in accordance with the present disclosure may include a UE identifying that the UE is configured to use a contention-based or uncoordinated (e.g., two-step) random access procedure including an uplink message and a downlink response, where the uplink message includes at least a preamble portion and a data portion. The UE may map an identifier of the UE into a block of source symbols, generate a codeword including a block of coded symbols from the block of source symbols, and generate a set of sequences, where each sequence is based at least in part on a value associated with a corresponding coded symbol of the block of coded symbols. The UE may transmit the generated set of sequences in a preamble portion of the uplink message.

Abstract: Some techniques and apparatuses described herein permit a user equipment (UE) to transition among different power settings for different parameters that impact the amount of power consumed by the UE. Such transitions may be configured to occur during a discontinuous reception (DRX) active time to provide power savings during the DRX active time or increase throughput during the DRX active time. In some aspects, the transitions may be signaled by a base station based at least in part on traffic volume for the UE, which may assist with improving throughput (e.g., when data is available for the UE), and which may assist with extending battery life of the UE (e.g., when data is not available for the UE). In some aspects, such transitions and associated parameter values may be preconfigured or a transition may be triggered by expiration of a timer, thereby reducing signaling overhead.

Devices using narrowband communications and frequency hopping techniques may maintain separate radio link monitoring (RLM) processes, beam failure detection (BFD) processes, beam failure recovery (BFR) processes, or combinations thereof, for multiple bandwidth parts (BWPs) or hop regions of a full channel bandwidth. Such separate processes may provide for enhanced estimates of beam failures per BWP or hop region, which may be used to enhance communications reliability.

In another example, the method includes establishing a connection with a base station using a component carrier (CC), the CC having a plurality of bandwidth parts (BWPs), receiving signaling that indicates an SPS configuration or other types of pre-configured resources associated with at least a first BWP of the plurality of BWPs and transmitting or receiving using at least the first BWP according to the SPS configuration or other types of pre-configured resources associated with at least the first BWP.

Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods, and devices for wireless communication that support a reduction in false positive paging. In some implementations, a method of wireless communication includes receiving, at a user equipment (UE) from a base station, a paging downlink control information (DCI). The paging DCI message is encoded to indicate an addressee of a paging message or indicates one or more UEs or a location of radio resources of the paging message in a time dimension, a frequency dimension, or both. The method also includes determining, at the UE, whether the paging message is addressed to the UE based on: an encoding of the paging DCI message, whether the one or more UEs include the UE, or the location of the radio resources of the paging message in the time dimension, the frequency dimension, or both. Other aspects and features are also claimed and described.
