Abstract:
A cyclone separator having an improved efficiency to remove a broader spectrum of contained particles is disclosed. The cyclone separator is provided with a member positioned to interact with at least the inner portion of a fluid circulating within the cyclone cavity to impart changes in the acceleration of the fluid as it rotates within the cyclone cavity.
Abstract:
An upright vacuum cleaner has a cleaning head for cleaning a surface and an upper body portion mounted on the cleaning head. The upper portion comprises a longitudinally extending axis, at least one cyclone having an air entry port and a motor positioned above the at least one cyclone and in air flow communication with the at least one cyclone.
Abstract:
A heat engine is constructed from sheet metal and the like. The heat engine has an outer container and inner container which contains a displacer and a power piston. A plurality of positioning members are provided to dimensionally stabilize the inner and outer containers. By providing positioning members that extend between the inner and the outer containers, a sandwiched construction is obtained which allows the inner and outer containers to reinforce each other thus permitting the use of thin walled containers and improving the thermal efficiency of the heat engine and decreasing the weight of the heat engine.

Abstract:
A process and reactor for chemical conversion is taught. The process allows the selective breaking of chemical bonds in a molecule by use of fast rise alternating current or fast rise pulsed direct current, each fast rise portion being selected to have a suitable voltage and frequency to break a selected chemical bond in a molecule. The reactor for carrying out such a process includes a chamber for containing the molecule and a generator for generating and applying the selected fast rise current.

Abstract:
An apparatus comprising a longitudinally extending housing having a fluid inlet port and a fluid outlet port; and, at leat one plurality of spaced apart members, each member rotatably mounted in the housing and having a pair of opposed surfaces to transmit motive force between fluid introduced through the fluid inlet port and the spaced apart members, the surface area of the opposed surfaces varying between at least some of the immediately adjacent spaced apart members.
Abstract:
An apparatus for inserting a venturi tube having an inlet, an aspirator inlet and an outlet directly within a fluid flow stream, with the aspirator inlet not in contact with the fluid flow stream is disclosed. A plate having a first aperture leading to the venturi inlet, and a series of second apertures both supports the venturi within a conduit and divides the fluid flow stream into a first stream which flows through the venturi tube and a second stream which flows around the venturi tube. A variety of adjusting mechanisms are disclosed for varying the cross sectional area of the second apertures relative to the cross sectional area of the venturi tube. The apparatus is adapted to allow the back pressure within the venturi tube (which increases as the fluid flow rate increases) to force an increasing proportion of the flow stream to flow around the venturi tube in order to maintain a relatively constant aspiration rate within the venturi tube. The adjustment mechanisms disclosed include a second plate, similar to the first plate, which is manually rotated and a blocking ring which moves responsive to changes in rate of flow of the fluid flow stream.
Abstract:
A vacuum cleaner head has a casing having a dirty air inlet and a brush mounted above the dirty air inlet and moveable with respect to the dirty air inlet. The brush is pivotally mounted to the casing by a pivot member at a position forward of the brush. The pivot member transmits force generated by the rotation of the brush to the casing thereby reducing the required offsetting upward biasing force and permitting effective floating of brush in the vacuum cleaner head.
Abstract:
A particle separation member is provided for use with a cyclone separator. The particle separation member divides the separator into a cyclone chamber and a particle receiving chamber. The cyclone chamber and the particle receiving chamber communicate via a plurality of apertures in the particle separation member. The particle separation member is provided with an access member which is movably mounted with respect to the particle separation member for providing access to the particle receiving chamber to empty the collected contents therefrom.
