Abstract:
The present invention relates to an apparatus for sorting products such as fruits, comprising an endless conveyor with product carriers which are connected to the conveyor with the aid of holders and which are positioned at predetermined intermediate distances along the conveyor, for conveying the products in a transport direction, wherein the product carriers can assume two positions, viz. a conveying position for conveying the products to discharge paths, and a releasing position for releasing products adjacent a desired discharge path, as well as operating means for operation of the product carriers for switching from conveying position to releasing position, and vice versa, and is characterized in that the operating means at said operation impart to the products a downward initial velocity in a substantially vertical plane through said transport direction. For this purpose, suitably, an apparatus for delivering such products is utilized, having a lug-pawl combination such that a short switching time is obtained. Thus, the need for higher processing rates can be met with advantage.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus handles discrete bruisable articles, such as apples or other pieces of fruit, with a minimum amount of bruising while determining a number of different properties of the articles, including optical properties. The articles are conveyed by conveyor cups over a load cell to determine their weight, and perhaps other properties, and then the cups are tilted so that the articles roll onto soft surface rollers with at least one back stop brush positioned where the rolling occurs. The rollers are rotated as the articles are conveyed by the rollers, so as to turn an article mounted between rollers so that a camera can evaluate optical properties of a large portion of each article, if not substantially all. Then a rotating brush disposed at an angle of between about 25-65 (e.g. about 45) degrees to the direction of roller movement moves the articles back to the cups, substantially without bruising, and eventually the cups are selectively tilted to sort the articles into a number of different categories dependent upon the weight and optical properties, and perhaps other properties, of the articles. The cups and rollers may have the same pitch, or different pitches, depending upon the articles being handled.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an article feeding apparatus for arraying and feeding articles having nearly spherical shape or nearly elliptical shape such as fruits and balls for sports, and more particularly to an article feeding apparatus comprising support rollers arranged in a conveying direction, with the support rollers being arranged at an angle of a nearly V form large in the opening angle as seen from the plane toward said conveying direction, and rotating means for rotating the support rollers in an article transferring direction, in which the articles are centered in the central part of the conveying route, the articles conveyed in overlaid or gathered state are dispersed back and forth, a transfer force is applied in a direction moving toward the central part of the conveying route, and the articles are transferred to next process accurately and securely one by one while maintaining the centered state of the articles.
Abstract:
A unit (1) for feeding a succession of sealed packages (2) containing pourable food products along a first path (P) from a supply station (4) to an output station (5), and for simultaneously tipping the packages (2) from a supply position in which the packages (2) are positioned with a respective axis (A) oriented in a first direction (B), to an output position in which the respective axis (A) is oriented in a second direction (C) perpendicular to the first direction (B); the unit (1) having a number of push arms (15) for feeding respective packages (2) along the first path (P), an actuating member (14) for moving the arms (15) along an endless second path (S) having a portion (S.sub.1) in common with the first path (P), a guide (17) extending substantially along the first path (P) and cooperating with the packages (2) to move the packages (2) gradually from the supply position to the output position, and a cam (18) cooperating with each arm (15) to move the arm (15), along the first path (P), between at least a first operating position interacting with and pushing the respective package (2), and a second operating position releasing the package (2).
Abstract:
An automated storage system for receiving, storing and returning dairy cases stored without pallets. Specifically, the automated storage system comprises an article transporter which includes a shuttle that deposits and retrieves dairy cases stored in storage lanes of a storage rack and a rail system for supporting the shuttle and dairy cases stored thereon. One or more shuttles may be used in the automated storage and retrieval system and are coupled via a shuttle bridge. The rail system includes two or more outer support rails and two or more inner support rails for supporting the shuttle and dairy cases. The rail system also supports normal Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) pallets or other special slave pallets. The bottom flange of the rail system has a "drip pan" style to contain leakage from the dairy cases. This "drip pan" design allows personnel to walk inside the storage lanes safely. The automated storage system also includes top guide rails and side guide rails mounted on the rigid framework of the automated storage system which prevent stacked dairy cases from tilting, tipping or misaligning when the dairy cases are stored within and transported through the storage lane. The automated system further includes predetermined gravity-feed storage lanes with roller conveyors which include two outer roller rails and one inner roller rail positioned so as to receive and support the stacked goods at the same position as the outer support rails and the inner support rails. The two outer roller rails also include tilt-in rollers which further prevents misalignment of the goods as they are transported on the roller conveyors through the gravity-feed storage lane.
Abstract:
A "fruit cup" (1) which is shaped to receive articles, for example single pieces of fruit of produce such as apples. The articles rest in a space on a support between the back plate (7) of a "U" shaped bracket and a rotatable bow-tie roller (2) positioned between the arms (4, 5) of the bracket. The support sits on a mounting to which it is coupled while being allowed limited relative movement therebetween. The relative movement between the support and the mounting allows the support to be tilted, lifting the roller (2), enabling it to be rotated to ensure that the "fruit cup" (1) contains only one article. The support is also able to be tipped to either side, to discharge the article contained therein, and to later be repositioned atop the mounting. In use, the base (13, 14) of the mounting is attached to an endless chain conveyor so that a number of "fruit cups" form an endless circuit in an article grading/packaging/sorting system which may have a number of adjacent circuits.
Abstract:
A dry shuffle feed apparatus is provided for use with produce for feeding produce in a predetermined timing pattern to processing equipment. One or more shuffle conveyors, each having multiple flights, are provided having an infeed chute and return chute. Produce enters the infeed chute and is fed onto the conveyor, the infeed chute having a multi-angulated surface to prevent bridging of the produce. A return chute extends upwardly alongside the conveyor from the infeed chute and returns excess produce to the infeed chute. The flights on each shuffle conveyor become narrower nearer the output end of the conveyor and overfed produce falls off the conveyor onto the return chute.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an object sorting and conveying apparatus used in the work for sorting and conveying objects, wherein multiple rotary support elements for mounting objects are disposed at the side of a conveying belt stretched in a conveying route orthogonally in the feed direction, the rotary support elements are rotated at the object inspection position for inverting and rotating the objects, the rotary support elements are designed to turn between a mounting position for mounting on the upper part and a tilting position for discharging objects, about the conveying belt side, and the objects can be inspected accurately by inverting and rotating the objects, and the position control and discharge of objects are also easy.
Abstract:
An apparatus for transferring substantially round, fragile articles, such as for instance eggs, from a first conveyor to a second conveyor or vice versa, characterized in that the transfer takes place by means of a swivel lever according to a flowing path of movement, wherein in the starting point or end point respectively of the path of movement, the velocity and direction of movement of the article to be transferred correspond to the velocity and direction of movement of the first conveyor and wherein the velocity and direction of movement of the article in a transfer track correspond to those of the second conveyor.
Abstract:
A conveying system (10) for foodstuffs comprising a first conveyor (11) and a second conveyor (12) placed side by side with the end of the first conveyor overlapping the start of the second conveyor. The overlapping portions of the conveyors are in close proximity so as to define a transfer zone (25). Each conveyor has a plurality of foodstuff supports each adapted to support a single piece of foodstuff, and a tilting device to tilt the foodstuff support of the first conveyor to cause the foodstuff to roll from the support of the first conveyor to the support of the second conveyor. The first conveyor (11) includes a photographic zone and the second conveyor includes a weighing zone and multiple ejection zones.
