Abstract: Systems and methods capable of transferring items from a bin are described. A de-binning system includes an item transfer apparatus including a transfer conveyor configured to move a conveyor belt surface, and a bin sub-frame coupled to the transfer conveyor and configured to receive a bin. While an item-containing bin is secured to the bin sub-frame, the bin sub-frame and the transfer conveyor are inverted to transfer the items onto the transfer conveyor, which can move the items onto a second conveyor belt. Various aspects of the present systems and methods prevent damage to the surface of delicate items being transferred.

Abstract: A method of handling packages can comprise moving a plurality of slats in a downstream direction so that a portion of each slat passes over an electromagnet. Each slat can be pivotable between a horizontal a tilted position, and the electromagnet can be energized to at least partially hold the slats in the horizontal position. The method further can include positioning a package on one or more slats of the plurality of slats so that the package is moved in the downstream direction on the one or more slats and moving the package off the one or more slats comprising deenergizing the electromagnet while moving the one or more slats past the electromagnet so that the one or more slats pivot from the horizontal to the tilted position so that the package moves off the one or more slats while the slats move in the downstream direction.

Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatuses for shifting, orienting, organizing, and/or routing objects including parcels and packages. In different aspects, the systems can shift objects, re-orient the objects, e.g., based on dimensions and/or geometries, and then can deposit the objects into transport receptacles used for additional shifting, organizing, and/or routing. In one aspect, an object-orienting mechanism includes a pivot-assembly having a plurality of pivoting-extensions, e.g., that can be independently rotated into different positions, e.g., to manipulate a package. In another aspect, a bin for holding objects includes a base, a plurality of sidewalls extending from the base, and a releasing mechanism that is adjustable into different configurations. In another aspect, a method of re-orienting objects onto a side of smallest dimension or cross-section is provided. This can be used to increase the efficiency of processing objects, e.g., in a logistics network operation.
