摘要: Glycidyl azide polymers, which are used as binders in composite explosive and propellant compositions, include hydroxyl groups which react with the isocyanate curing agent normally used in such compositions. Since the functionality of available linear glycidyl azide polymers is less than two, triols and/or triisocyanates are needed to crosslink the chains to form a matrix. A glycidyl azide polymer with increased functionality (higher than two) and reactivity obviates the need for triols and triisocyanates in the compositions. Moreover, a glycidyl azide polymer with primary hydroxyl groups would give faster curing reactions at lower temperatures without gassing problems, eliminating the need for a catalyst. Examples of glycidyl azide polymer having increased functionality have one of the formulae: ##STR1## wherein R is ##STR2## wherein m and n are different from zero, and m+n is 4 to 60.

摘要: A narrow band noise cancellor and signal correllator which obtains an increased signal to noise ratio of a received signal from a multi sensor array; the resulting output signal is at double the input frequency. A pair of narrow band similar input signals are added, and subtracted, and the resulting signals are multiplied together. The positive and negative product terms of the signal are separated and the positive term inverted, and the resulting separated signals are individually added with the squared representation of one of the input signals. The resulting added signals are summed and the sum is passed through a narrow band filter having its center frequency at double the input frequency.

摘要: The quantity of chemical, e.g. charcoal added to fabric used to produce protective clothing for the military is usually determined by the simple expedient of weighing the fabric or swatches thereof before and after impregnation in a charcoal slurry. This method may result in large errors. A simple, effective method of determining the quantity of charcoal or other chemical being incorporated in a fabric base is to add a magnetic tracer, e.g. magnetite to the chemical prior to impregnation, and to measure the magnetic susceptibility of the fabric on a continuous basis immediately following impregnation. If the magnetic tracer is uniformly mixed with the chemical, the direct correlation between magnetic susceptibility and tracer concentration will provide an accurate indication of tracer and consequently chemical concentration in the fabric.

摘要: A compact lightweight flexible omnidirectional broadband UHF antenna of the fat monopole type is disclosed. The antenna comprises a braided copper sleeve molded inside a truncated cone of neoprene rubber. The antenna is suitable for vehicle or mast mounting. When mast mounted, the antenna may be associated with ground plane rods, each of which is mounted to a common support by means of a pivot with yieldable protuberances. The protuberances yield to the plane face of the support and will, therefore, enter recesses provided in the support in the rotational path of the protuberances. When the protuberances enter the recesses, the associated ground plane rod is locked in either an operational or a storage position.

摘要: The specification describes a case for use with a hand-portable chemical agent detector for continuously monitoring an atmosphere for the presence of predetermined chemical agents. The detector having means for ionizing air samples and providing at an output terminal electrical signals representative of the mobility spectrum of ionized chemical vapors produced by the ionizing means. The case comprises means defining a chamber in the case for supporting and removably enclosing the detector, means for communicating ambient atmosphere to the chamber, electrical circuit means in the case, the circuit means being adapted to be detachably connected to the detector output terminal when the detector is positioned in the chamber and being responsive to the electrical signals for producing an alarm signal when the signals detect a chemical agent concentration in the atmosphere exceeding a predetermined concentration level, and alarm means responsive to the alarm signal.

摘要: A system for monitoring the integrity of a cable, for example a cable for towing a variable depth sonar body through the ocean, is described. Such a cable comprises a core of electrical wires surrounded by load bearing wires which are secured to the sonar body through a terminator. For various reasons cracks can appear in the load bearing wires and in extreme cases one or more of the wires may break. The monitoring system includes a transducer located near the terminator where the wires are most likely to crack or break and acoustic emissions caused by the incidence of cracks or breaks are picked up by the transducer. The resulting electrical signals are amplified and passed up the electrical core of the cable to the towing vessel where they are processed. Novel aspects of the system are the water coupling between the location of the cracks or breaks and the transducer and special processing circuitry which enables breaks, cracks and electrical noise to be distinguished from each other.

摘要: A sampling spectrum analyzer provides instantaneous continuous wideband spectrum analysis to allow RF signals occurring simultaneously and spaced within the band to be displayed. An input signal is split and each resulting portion is passed down a tapped delay line, with samples at the taps of each line being processed by separate arithmetic units. The output of each arithmetic unit is applied to the taps of output delay lines which are similar to the input delay lines. Each arithmetic unit weights the input samples with a set of coefficients and sums the resulting signal in a prescribed manner, thus transforming the signal into the frequency domain, according to a discrete Fourier transform. The resulting sums are the real and imaginary terms of a signal which are vectorially added, resulting in a signal which is fed to the ordinate of a display having a swept time base representing frequency.

摘要: A tubular structural element comprises a tubular body made of a fiber reinforced composite material having reinforcing fibers embedded in a matrix. The fibers are one of carbon, berylium, boron, glass, metallic or non-metallic, or a hybridized combination of the same. The tubular body has projections interiorly thereof which are integral therewith, and are of the same or another fiber reinforced composite material. The reinforcing fibers in the body are oriented in mutual stress transmitting relation, preferably circumferentially in the tubular body, and longitudinally in the interior projections. In making the tubular structural element, the fiber reinforced composite is introduced into each channel formed in a mandrel. The channels extend generally longitudinally of the mandrel, and optionally may also be spirally or helically oriented. Additional composite material is then overlaid generally circumferentially on the mandrel, to a desired thickness. The material is cured, and then removed from the mandrel for any final processing desired.
