Abstract:
The present invention discloses a novel apparatus and way for directing a supply of compressed air into a fuel nozzle assembly for mixing with a fuel source. The apparatus comprises a fuel nozzle assembly having one or more coaxial flow dividers and radially-extending swirler vanes for directing a supply of fuel to a mixing tube. Compressed air is directed to flow in a primarily axial direction by passing through one or more coaxial flow dividers spaced axially and radially about the air inlet region of the fuel nozzle assembly so as to form a non-uniform radial distribution of compressed air to the inlet region of the fuel nozzle assembly.
Abstract:
A system and method for improving the cooling to a portion of a combustion liner of a gas turbine combustor is disclosed. The combustion liner is cooled by supplying air through a plurality of cooling holes arranged in axially spaced rows in an upper and lower portion of the liner. The cooling holes are spaced accordingly so as to direct additional cooling flow to an area of the combustion liner not receiving sufficient flow due to maldistributions of air from the compressor discharge.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for processing a financial transaction are provided. A representative system of processing a financial transaction comprises a product dispensing device that encodes and outputs public transaction data related to a purchasable item. A portable computing device receives the public transaction data and encodes a payment data with the received public transaction data. A payment processing server receives and processes the encoded data, and determines whether a transaction can be completed based on the encoded data. Responsive to determining that the transaction is completed, the payment processing server generates and transmits an authentication data based on the encoded data. The portable computing device receives and outputs the authentication data. The product dispensing device receives the authentication data, verifies payment based on the received authentication data, and provides the purchasable item to a customer who is operating the portable computing device.
Abstract:
A target time stamp on a target time-base is obtained from a originating time stamp on an originating time-base of an audio video transport system by first taking samples simultaneously from transport streams having the originating time-base and target timebase, respectively. A current sample and an immediately preceding sample for the originating time-base and target time-base are stored, respectively. A first difference is determined between the current sample and an immediately preceding sample for the originating time-base and a second difference is determined between the current sample and an immediately preceding sample for the target time-base, respectively. The first difference is added to the current sample of the originating time base and the second difference is added to the current sample of the target time-base if the current sample is less than the originating time-stamp and the first difference is subtracted from the current sample of the originating time base and the second difference is subtracted from the current sample of the target time-base if the current sample is greater than the originating timestamp. The first difference and the second difference are halved and the addition or subtraction and halving iterated until the first difference or the second difference is negligibly small. The iterated current sample of the target time-base is output as the target time-stamp.
Abstract:
The present teachings relate to techniques and equipment to insert documents into either letter envelopes or flat mail envelopes on the same dual mode mailing inserter without the need to do machine setup between letter and flat mail envelope insertion. The dual mode mail inserting machine is configured to accept documents from a printer that are designed for insertion into flat mail envelope. If a document plus its inserts and envelope weighs less than a predetermined weight, the document will be diverted from the normal flat mail path to a second inserter and output section.
Abstract:
An automatic system for removing tea from a teapot is disclosed. The present invention incorporates the use of a timing mechanism, a release mechanism and an infuser mechanism to automatically remove the tea from hot water. The timing mechanism is user set and controls the length of time the tea is steeped in hot water. The infuser mechanism comprises a filter element that holds the tea in contact with the hot water and a counterbalance that rotates the filter element out of the water when released and the release mechanism that releases the infuser mechanism when the time has expired.
Abstract:
A portable communications device, e.g., a cell phone with a simplified user interface and easy to use keys is described. For many input/selection opportunities the user is presented with at most 4 options. This allows navigation between applications, pages and selection of actions corresponding to pages to be supported using relatively few keys, e.g., 4 keys, thereby allowing the number of keys on the phone to be kept small and the key size large. Prompts are used to present most options with keys being lighted in some embodiments when the key corresponds to a valid input option and delighted when the key does not correspond to a valid input option. Presentation of a dial prompt may be limited to times when a call can be placed successfully. In various embodiments a cell phone is implemented with less than 10 keys in total but in other embodiments more keys are used.
Abstract:
A plurality of workpieces are assembled into a stack. Two of the workpieces are machined on one surface at predetermined positions from the edges of the workpieces. The workpieces are stacked so that the machined surfaces of the workpieces face away from each other. Two workpieces are provided with a stop off material on one of their surfaces to prevent diffusion bonding at predetermined positions. The edges of the workpieces are welded together and a pipe is welded to the stack to interconnect with the stop off material to form a sealed assembly. The workpieces are diffusion bonded together. The integral structure formed is heated and opposite ends of the integral structure are twisted relatively to contour the integral structure to a predetermined shape. The integral structure is heated and the machined portions on the workpieces are isothermally forged and then the twisted integral structure is internally pressurised to superplastically form one workpiece to produce an article, eg a fan blade.

Abstract:
A plurality of titanium sheets are assembled into a stack. At least one of the sheets is provided with a stop off material on one of its surfaces to prevent diffusion bonding at predetermined positions. The edges of the sheets are welded together and a pipe is welded to the stack to interconnect with the stop off material to form a sealed assembly. The assembly is heated and externally pressurized to diffusion bond the sheets together. The integral structure so formed is heated and opposite ends of the integral structure are twisted relatively to contour the integral structure to a predetermined shape. The integral structure is internally pressurized to break the adhesive bonds. The integral structure is heated and internally pressurized to superplastically form one sheet to produce an article, e.g. a fan blade.
