A smoke detection method includes ramp-counting of non-decreasing smoke level samples for detecting smoldering fire conditions and counting of obscuring smoke level samples for detecting other-than-smoldering fire conditions. The ramp-counting of non-decreasing smoke level samples includes increasing a smoke detection ramp count for each successive smoke level sample that does not decrease from a previous one and resetting the smoke detection ramp count whenever a smoke level sample decreases relative to a previous one.

An apparatus for detecting a pointer within a region of interest includes a first reflective element extending along a first side of the region of interest and reflecting light towards the region of interest. A second reflective element extends along a second side of the region of interest and reflects light towards the region of interest. The second side is joined to the first side to define a first corner. A non-reflective region generally in the plane of at least one of the first and second reflective elements is adjacent the first corner. At least one imaging device captures images of the region of interest including reflections from the first and second reflective elements.

A method for coupling a lead-in cable to an insulated conductor includes exposing an end portion of a core of the insulated conductor by removing at least a portion of a jacket and an electrical insulator surrounding the end portion of the core. A recess is formed in the electrical insulator at the end of the electrical insulator surrounding the end portion of the core. An end portion of a conductor of the lead-in cable is exposed by removing at least a portion of a sheath and insulation surrounding the end portion of the conductor. The end portion of the core is coupled to the end portion of the conductor. The end portion of the core and the end portion of the conductor are placed in a body filled with electrically insulating material.

A knife having a blade tip configuration that reduces incisional force by providing a more efficient distribution of tissue piercing and cutting forces over the cutting edges. The distal tip of the blade has a profile in plan view that may be described as bounded by the following equations w=5.886(d)0.663 and w=1.561(d)0.820 where w is the distance in microns from the blade's longitudinal axis to the blade's cutting edge and d is the distance in microns along the blade's longitudinal axis from the extreme distal point of the blade tip. The extreme distal point of the tip has a slightly rounded, rather than pointed, profile, with a tip radius of approximately 40 microns or less.

It is disclosed herein that particular forms of MS have significant pathogenetic differences both between each other and when compared to controls. In particular, CD127 is under-expressed in one form of MS but over-expressed in another form, relative both to each form of MS and to controls. Methods and compositions are provided for the treatment and/or diagnosis of disease caused by forms of multiple sclerosis that under-express and forms that over-express CD127. In specific examples, the methods for treating CD127-low MS comprise administering an effective amount of IL-7 or an effective amount of leukocytes treated with IL-7. Also provided are methods for treating CD127-low MS wherein leukocytes are induced to express at least one receptor, a subunit of which is CD127.

An apparatus for detecting a pointer includes a waveguide and a touch surface over the waveguide on which pointer contacts are to be made. At least one reflecting device extends along a first side of the waveguide and touch surface. The reflecting device defines an optical path between the interior of the waveguide and the region of interest above the touch surface. At least one imaging device looks across the touch surface and into the waveguide. The imaging device captures images of the region of interest and within the waveguide including reflections from the reflecting device.

Also at least some of the outwardly extending fingers or projections of the transverse bars provide a means of entrainment of the crop or material being conveyed/elevated.
