Abstract:
A gear indicator for use on a bicycle is provided remotely from the shift operating device. The gear indicator is coupled to a shift operating device via an indicator cable. The gear indicator basically includes a housing with an indicator member slidably coupled to the indicator cable with in the housing. The location of the indicator member relative to the housing indicates a gear currently engaged by the chain. In the most preferred embodiments, an indicator member is frictionally mounted on the inner wire of the indicator cable for automatically adjusting of the indicator member in the event that the cable becomes elongated or the indicator member becomes misaligned. The housing has a biasing member coupled between one wall of an interior cavity and the first end of the inner wire of the cable indicator for biasing the indicator member to one of its end positions. An abutment or stopper is provided within the housing to engage indicator member to automatically adjust the indicator member along the cable in the event that the cable becomes elongated or the indicator member becomes misaligned. In other embodiments, a gear position indicia portion of the housing is frictionally coupled to the housing for manually or automatically adjusting the gear position indicia relative to the indicator member.
Abstract:
A lever operating device has a lever supported rotatably with respect to a fixed shaft for retaining one end of a control wire to control gear-shifting means of a bicycle. The lever operating device includes an indicator which is provided at the lever which is adapted to move in the turning direction of the lever within a fixed range corresponding to the play existing in the control wire, whereby when the lever is turned the indicator moves lagging behind the turning lever by a fixed distance corresponding to the play of the control wire.
Abstract:
A bicycle rim is basically provided with an outer rim portion and an inner rim portion. The outer rim portion has a ring shape of a first material. The inner rim portion is joined to the outer rim portion. The inner rim portion has a ring shape of a second material with an internal residual stress distribution resulting from the ring shape being formed by spinning of the second material.
Abstract:
A bicycle gear shift operating device is a device configured to be mounted to a handlebar. The bicycle gear shift operating device includes at least one operating lever, a support member that supports the operating member and a mounting member that supports the support member on a handlebar. The mounting member has a mounting portion configured to be attached to the handlebar and a fastening portion that is configured to fasten the support member. The mounting member is configured to be selectively fasten the support member in either a first mounting orientation in which the fastening portion is offset in a first axial direction of the handlebar from the middle portion or a second mounting orientation in which the support member is offset in a second axial direction that is opposite the first axial direction.
Abstract:
An apparatus for a disk brake comprises a caliper body having an inner peripheral surface and a seal groove disposed at the inner peripheral surface. The inner peripheral surface is dimensioned to slidably receive a piston therein, wherein the piston moves in a direction of a braking direction axis, and the seal groove is dimensioned to receive a seal therein so that the seal can seal a space between the inner peripheral surface and the piston. The seal groove comprises a movement restricting part that restricts movement of the seal in the direction of the braking direction axis, and a movement permitting part formed as a step facing radially inwardly.
Abstract:
A bicycle operating device is provided with a base member, a brake operating lever and a shift operating member. The base member is configured to be attached to a bicycle. The brake operating lever is pivotally coupled to the base member about a pivot axis to perform a braking operation when the brake operating lever is moved in a first direction. The shift operating member is movably arranged to move from a rest position in a second direction to perform a gear shift operation. The shift operating member is further movably arranged to move from the rest position to a full stroke position in a third direction different from the first and second directions without causing the gear shifting operation.
Abstract:
A bicycle component (e.g., a rear derailleur) is basically provided with a base member and an axle. The axle includes a base supporting part supporting the base member for pivoting about a center axis of the axle and a base attaching part projecting outwardly of the base member for fixedly attachment to a bicycle frame. The base supporting part and the base attaching part overlap to define a coupling interface in which either a fixing element is disposed between the coupling interface of the base supporting part and the base attaching part or one of the base supporting part and the base attaching part is deformed with an interference fit. The base supporting part is formed of a first material with a first specific gravity. The base attaching part is formed of a second material with a second specific gravity that is higher than the first specific gravity.
Abstract:
A bicycle rear derailleur comprises a base member, a movable member that supports a chain guide including a pulley that rotates around a pulley axis, and a linking member coupled between the base member and the movable member so that the chain guide moves laterally relative to the base member between a first lateral position and a second lateral position. Examples of features include the linking member being coupled to the base member through separate pivot pins, the linking member straddling the base member, and the base member having link coupling projections with different thicknesses.
Abstract:
A bicycle braking system is basically provided with a bicycle braking device, a supplementary brake operating device and a brake maintaining arrangement. The bicycle braking device is movably between a non-brake applying position and a brake applying position for applying a braking force. The supplementary brake operating device is operatively coupled to operate the bicycle braking device. The supplementary brake operating device includes a rider operating arrangement that is operable by a rider between a non-braking position and at least one predetermined braking position. The brake maintaining arrangement is configured and arranged to hold the bicycle braking device in the brake applying position in response to movement of the rider operating arrangement to the predetermined braking position such that the braking force of the bicycle braking device is continually and consistently applied.
Abstract:
A bicycle wheel securing structure includes an adapter, an axial retaining arrangement and a holding member. The adapter is configured and arranged to be mounted in an axle mounting opening of a bicycle fork and has an axial bore that is at least partially threaded. The axial retaining arrangement is disposed between the adapter and the mounting opening to prevent axial removal of the adapter from the mounting opening. The holding member is attached to the bicycle fork. The holding member and the adapter are configured and arranged such that the holding member prevents rotation of the adapter when the adapter is mounted in the axle mounting opening of the bicycle fork and engaged with the holding member.
