Abstract:
An amphiphilic compound having a dendritic branch structure represented by general formula (I): 1 In the formula (I), R0 is a hydrophilic group; R1 and R2 are independently a hydrophobic group; and n is an integer of 1 to 4. This amphiphilic compound is capable of stably fixing a water-soluble polymer onto a surface structure by taking advantage of intermolecular interaction, thereby enabling the water-soluble polymer to be carried thereon without giving any damage to the function thereof.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method and apparatus for regenerating an oxygen-binding ability by reducing the methemoglobin contained in hemoglobin-vesicle by light irradiation. This method comprises adding electron donors such as amino acids, saccharides, alcohols, and/or flavin derivatives in appropriate amounts to the inner aqueous phase of the hemoglobin-vesicle, applying light to the vesicle when the content of methemoglobin increases as a result of oxidation of hemoglobin, thereby reducing the metohemoglobin. In this manner, the oxygen-binding ability is recovered, thereby maintaining the function of the hemoglobin-vesicle.
Abstract:
A method for achieving the sufficient expression of a gene in a useful higher plant which has been transformed by transferring the above gene encoding a protein having a function carried by another organism so as to impart the function to the plant. Namely, a method for transforming a useful plant by transferring a gene of another species into the plant characterized in that the region of a factor relating to the poly(A) addition of the mRNA of the useful plant to be transformed contained in the base sequence of the gene of the other species is denatured into another base sequence not relating to the poly(A) addition of the mRNA without substantially altering the function of the protein encoded by the gene to be transferred; and a gene usable in the gene transfer.
Abstract:
A bed of calcium oxide and/or barium oxide in particulate form is continuously moved through a contact reaction zone such that it enters into countercurrent reaction with the feedstock and the reaction is performed in a reaction column equipped with an agitating/moving device by which the halide which is the product of reaction between the organic halide and the oxide is continuously discharged to the outside of the reaction zone.
Abstract:
A subcultivatable, established microglia having the following properties. (a) Form: Both or either of a macrophage-like or spherical form in the presence of a granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulation factor and a branched form similar to branched microglia present in the brain in the absence of the factor. (b) Functional characteristics: specific affinity for the brain highly poor phagocytic action. (c) Cell proliferation: proliferative depending upon a granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulation factor. Preparation, separation, and screening methods of the microglia, a pharmaceutical composition using the microglia, and a method for treatment of cerebral diseases using the composition.
Abstract:
SiC fiber-reinforced SiC-matrix composite has the structure that SiC filaments are inserted into SiC matrix formed as a pyrolysis product of polyvinyl-silane (PVS) infiltrated into openings of said SiC filaments. PVS as a polymeric SiC precursor has structural units (a) and (b) at an a/b ratio of 1. A SiC fiber preform is impregnated with PVS slurry in an open or vacuum atmosphere, preheated at 300-400null C. in an inert gas atmosphere to moderate PVS to a viscous or semi-cured state, and then pyrolyzed in an argon atmosphere under application of a unidirectional pressure. A product is SiC fiber-reinforced SiC-matrix composite excellent in mechanical strength and high-temperature property with high density. The SiC composite is further densified by infiltration of PVS slurry suspending fine SiC particles therein or by repetition of impregnation with sole PVS and pressure-less pyrolysis after the pressurized pyrolysis. Abstract:
There is provided a method for preserving an oxygen infusion comprising a suspension containing hemoglobin or a heme derivative contained in molecular assemblies suspended in a aqueous medium, comprising modifying the molecular assemblies with polyoxyethylene, and making the hemoglobin or the heme derivative to a deoxy-type by removing oxygen from the suspension.
