Abstract:
A computer searching technique identifies high quantitative patterns in data. A spatial indexing technique, such as an R-tree is used to represent the data. Then a pattern searching algorithm is used to identify anchor points that define the componentwise minimum patterns. High quantitative patterns are found responsive to the componentwise minimum patterns. The search strategy is demonstrated relevant to the problem of finding suitable locations for a retail business with reference to environments of prior successful retail businesses.
Abstract:
A textured fabric having at least one surface that contains peaks and valleys is provided. Greater than about 90% of the peaks and less than about 10% of the valleys are disposed with a treatment composition, the treatment composition comprising a latex polymer. In one embodiment, for example, the textured fabric is a hydraulically entangled composite fabric formed from a spunbond nonwoven web and pulp fibers. When coated onto the fabric, the treatment composition may form a thin film layer on the fiber surface that prevents fibers or zones of fibers from breaking away from the surface as lint. Further, because the coating is applied only to the peaks, the valleys may remain free of the latex polymer and substantially maintain the absorbency of the uncoated fabric.
Abstract:
A method for manufacturing a multi-resin composite article is provided. The method comprises providing at least one fiber preform in a mold; injecting a plurality of resins into the at least one fiber preform at a plurality of locations on the at least one fiber preform; and forming at least one transition region along a mutual contact surface between the resins. Each of the at least one transition regions is defined by a gradual transition in composition from one of the resins to another of the resins. A multi-resin composite article is also provided. The article comprises: at least one fiber preform; a plurality of resins, wherein the at least one fiber preform is infused with the resins; and at least one transition region extending along a mutual contact surface between respective ones of the resins. A system for manufacturing such a multi-resin composite article is also provided.
Abstract:
Methods for making a self-conforming non-crimp fabric involving tailoring at least a first parameter to anchor the fabric and at least a second parameter to provide conformability of the fabric, the first and second parameters selected from stitch type, stitch spacing, stitch density, stitch material, stitch weight, stitch tension, and combinations of the same.
Abstract:
Composite containment casings including a body having an interior and a fragment catcher integrally joined to the interior of the body of the containment casing.
Abstract:
Methods for making a composite containment casing having an integrated fragment catcher involving providing a mandrel having a pocket, applying at least one ply of a material about the mandrel in at least the pocket, applying a strip about the material in the pocket to produce an integrated fragment catcher preform, applying at least one ply of the material about the mandrel having the integrated fragment catcher preform to produce a containment casing preform comprising the integrated fragment catcher preform, infusing a resin into the containment casing preform having the integrated fragment catcher preform, curing the containment casing preform to produce the containment casing having the integrated fragment catcher.
Abstract:
A method of fabricating a fan containment case for a gas turbine engine is provided. The method includes forming a core layer material, wrapping the core layer material about a cylindrically-shaped take-up spool, and transferring the core layer material to a cylindrically-shaped mandrel by wrapping a plurality of layers of the core layer material about the mandrel such that the mandrel is circumscribed by the layers and such that a size and a cylindrical shape of the fan containment case are defined by the layers of core layer material.
Abstract:
Articles including a primary composite structure having a circumference, at least one mounting flange operably connected to the primary composite structure about the circumference, the mounting flange having at least one circumferentially oriented core fiber.
Abstract:
A multiaxial high cycle fatigue test system for testing bending, torsion, and tension of a test unit, comprises servo-hydraulic components, including a hydraulic service manifold, two small high frequency actuators along a first axis, and one large main actuator along a second axis The large main actuator is used to apply a radial centrifugal force, and the two small actuators are used to apply vibratory loading; the two small side actuators being offset independently of each other, to enable the machine to apply both bending loads and torque to the test unit. The test unit is subjected to torsion loading when the traverse actuators move in phase, that is when both actuators move either in or out at the same time. The test unit is subjected to bending loading when the actuators move out-of-phase, that is one actuator moves in when the other moves out or vice-versa.
Abstract:
The invention relates to novel inbred rice lines designated A0044 and B0044, and the plants of inbred rice lines A0044 and B0044 as well as the rice plant and plant parts produced by the seed designated A0044. The invention also relates to methods of maintaining the male-sterile line A0044 by crossing it with the fertile line B0044 and to methods of producing hybrid rice plants by crossing inbred rice line A0044 with rice lines that act as pollen parents to restore fertility to the F1 plants. Further, the invention relates to hybrid rice plants in which inbred rice line A0044 is the female parent.
