The energy capture layer having a high in-plane tensile strength and low resistance to delamination and fiber-matrix debonding at impact. A method of fabricating a containment case includes the steps of disposing one or more layers of a puncture resistant material on a layup mandrel, disposing one more layers of a structural composite material on an exterior surface of the puncture resistant material, disposing one or more layers of an energy capture material on an exterior surface of the structural material and curing a resin in the plurality of layers.

    摘要: In one embodiment, the present invention provides an uncured composite composition. The uncured composite composition includes an uncured resin and a triaxial braid. The triaxial braid includes a longitudinal axis, a first bias fiber extending in a first bias direction at a first bias angle to the longitudinal axis, a second bias fiber extending in a second bias direction at a second bias angle to the longitudinal axis, and an axial fiber extending in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis; wherein the first bias fiber, the second bias fiber, and the axial fiber have a substantially same tow size, and the tow size is in a range of from about 1 k to about 11 k. A cured composite and a method of making the cured composite are also provided.

    摘要: A method for manufacturing a multi-resin composite article is provided. The method comprises providing at least one fiber preform in a mold; injecting a plurality of resins into the at least one fiber preform at a plurality of locations on the at least one fiber preform; and forming at least one transition region along a mutual contact surface between the resins. Each of the at least one transition regions is defined by a gradual transition in composition from one of the resins to another of the resins. A multi-resin composite article is also provided. The article comprises: at least one fiber preform; a plurality of resins, wherein the at least one fiber preform is infused with the resins; and at least one transition region extending along a mutual contact surface between respective ones of the resins. A system for manufacturing such a multi-resin composite article is also provided.

The tows are grouped into a number of bands and form a number of filament-wound radially disposed layers. The bands of tows are interleaved as a number of direct bands and indirect bands along at least a portion of one or more of the layers. A method of forming a fan containment casing includes winding a number of tows on a liner to form a number of radially disposed layers, where each of the layers is continuously connected to at least one adjacent one of the layers across one of the end regions via at least one of the tows.
