A machine for producing a material web, including a paper or cardboard web, having a plurality of cylinders around which the material web is guided in a meandering path together with a conveyor (transport) belt. The machine further includes at least one air conveying device disposed in the transfer region between two cylinders. The air conveying device associates with the free circumference region of a cylinder and aspirates the material web as the material web travels in a path free from contact with the cylinders as the material web travels between two succeeding cylinders. The material web and the conveyor belt are partially wound around the circumference region of the cylinders. According to the invention, the air conveying device only covers certain areas of the free circumference region of the cylinder on which the material web (paper web) winds.

The invention relates to a steam blower box for the application of steam onto a material web passing by, for example onto a paper web that is to be dewatered and is passing through the press section of a paper-manufacturing machine. The steam blower box extends, transverse to the web travel direction, over the entire web width and comprises a plurality of zone chambers, that are arranged side by side over the web width and are covered by a perforated steam exit panel. Each zone chamber is connected to a steam source via a control valve of its own. The steam exit panel can be removed for purposes of cleaning the zone chambers. Each of the zone chambers comprises a perforated panel insert which is likewise removable.

A paper making machine comprises a press followed by an adjoining drying section having a plurality of dryer groups. Each dryer group comprises only one row of dryer cylinders and one row of suction rolls then therebetween. The press section in each of the dryer groups has a respective variable web speed drive. A speed control device controls the drive such that a positive difference in speed is always present between the first dryer group and the press and also between the second dryer group and the first dryer group. Open draws may be defined between at least some of the dryer groups.

The process includes fixing a drilling apparatus to a cylinder adjacent to the cylinder to be drilled, and substantially eliminating influences of mechanical play due to structures of the adjacent cylinder prior to drilling, which includes coupling a support member to the adjacent cylinder to exert tangential forces on the adjacent cylinder, whereby the mechanical play is substantially eliminated. Method and apparatus for determining characteristics of a running material web, the apparatus including at least one measuring device. The at least one measuring device is movable and has at least two degrees of freedom of movement. Each of the at least two degrees of freedom of movement is at least one of a rotary movement and a linear movement. The at least one measuring device is adapted to detect, at a plurality of measurement locations, data relating to at least one measured parameter. The at least one measuring device detects data about at least one of the following measured parameters: measured parameters which relate to a characteristic value of air in a region of the material web; measured parameters which relate to the material web; and other measured parameters. The method includes detecting, at a plurality of measurement locations and using the at least one measuring device, data relating to at least one measured parameter.

A process and a device for drying and smoothing a web. The process uses an apparatus including at least one dryer section having a plurality of heated cylinders and a calender having a plurality of smoothing nips, and includes guiding the web over the plurality of heated cylinders in the at least one dryer section, drying the web in the at least one dryer section to a maximum dry content of approximately 93%, adjusting a moisture cross-profile of the web in the dryer section, and guiding the web to the calender. The device includes a dryer section comprising beginning, middle, and end sections, a calender, and at least one adjusting device located in the end section for moistening the web, wherein the web is guided through the dryer section prior to being guided to the calender.

Drying section of a machine for producing a material web. The drying section includes a support roll with an associated impingement dryer, and at least one straight or curved section forming at least a part of a closed path between a last nip of a press section adjacent the drying section and the support roll. The support roll and the impingement dryer are arranged to guide the material web over the support roll, and, thereby, to subject the material web to at least one of hot air and hot steam impingement. The at least one straight or slightly curved section is structured and arranged to form at least one of an impingement drying section and a transfer foil section.
