Abstract:
A method to control cell selection and/or re-selection in a communication system comprising a plurality of cells with which terminal devices may communicate, the method including the steps of: determining that a terminal device is to start a session for a certain service, the service using a reception frequency; based on that determination, changing at least one cell selection and/or re-selection parameter in respect of the terminal device with the effect that a subsequent cell selection and/or re-selection performed by the device would favor cells that use the reception frequency used in the service session over other cells.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for detecting additional base stations in a cellular radio telephone system in which communication channels are opened with a selected base station on a selected channel.
Abstract:
A portable radio telephone (5) communicates with base stations (1, 2) in a digital radio telephone system, such as DECT, employing TDMA transmission. The portable radio telephone is programmed with an algorithm which is operative to select a communication channel by storing a blind slot mask (7) representative of the time slots in each frame which are excluded. The algorithm is operative to check the time slots for availability in a predetermined sequence which corresponds to the temporal sequence of the slots (or the reverse thereof) to promote orderly filling of the time slots at the base stations.
Abstract:
Disclosed are methods, apparatus and computer program products that provide an enhanced multi-SIM wireless communication device. For example, a method includes providing in a wireless communication device a protocol stack software component composed of a first native protocol stack software and a second native protocol stack software each comprising layer 1, layer 2 and layer 3 protocol stack functionality. The first native protocol stack software and the second native protocol stack software are each associated with a respective subscriber identity module and are independent of one another. The method further includes providing in the wireless communication device a common software component that includes protocol stack framework software elements, a hardware arbitration layer and a hardware adaptation layer. The method further includes linking the protocol stack software component and the common software component into a modem software executable capable of operation with hardware of the wireless communication device.
Abstract:
A wireless device has at least first and second radio systems. A first of the radio systems provides an indication for a second of the radio systems that it is transmitting or is about to transmit. The actual interference caused by transmissions by the first radio system to operation of the second radio system is measured, and/or the likely interference caused by transmissions by the first radio system to operation of the second radio system is estimated. The behavior of at least one of the first and second radio systems is modified in order to reduce the interference depending on the measured actual interference or estimated likely interference.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for reducing battery consumption in a radio telephone by scanning for additional local base stations when a currently monitored signal from a local base station is deteriorating.
Abstract:
A portable radio telephone (5) communicates with base stations (1, 2) in a digital radio telephone system, such as DECT, employing TDMA transmission. The portable radio telephone is programmed with an algorithm which is operative to select a communication channel by storing a blind slot mask (7) representative of the time slots in each frame which are excluded, either by virtue of being occupied by the base station or by the portable radio telephone itself. Hence, any channel attempted and failed in an occupied time slot is excluded and marked blind in the blind slot mask. Further, the algorithm is operative to check the time slots for availability in a predetermined sequence which corresponds to the temporal sequence of the slots (or the reverse thereof) to promote orderly filling of the time slots at the base stations.
Abstract:
A radio receiver operable for communication in a radio system in which information is transmitted on respective channels in bursts. Each burst has a field for enabling the radio receiver to synchronise therewith. The radio receiver has an adjustable internal clock for timing receiving signals. Adjustment of the internal clock can be suspended if an error field in a received signal indicates that a signal received is not a valid burst.
