Abstract: A method and system for controlling an access node includes prioritizing a plurality of wireless devices. The method also includes monitoring a position of a relay-capable wireless device and positions of the prioritized wireless devices. The method also includes determining the position of the relay-capable wireless device meets a first distance criteria and the position of prioritized wireless devices meets a second distance criteria. The method also includes assigning the relay-capable wireless device to a carrier aggregation configuration or an antenna diversity configuration based on the position of the relay-capable device and the position of the prioritized wireless devices. The method also includes assigning the prioritized wireless devices to the diversity configuration or the carrier aggregation configuration based on the position of the prioritized wireless devices.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for determining an access node for a wireless device. A first signal may be transmitted from a first access node with an increased signal level. An indication of a first adjustment factor based on the increased first signal level may also be transmitted from the first access node. Signal information may then be received from a wireless device, where the signal information includes a determined first signal level associated with the first access node and a determined second signal level associated with a second access node. The determined first signal level from the signal information may comprise a received signal level of the first signal decreased by the first adjustment factor. Based on the signal information, one of the first access node and the second access node may be selected for communication with the wireless device and the wireless device may be instructed to communicate with the selected access node.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for reducing a maximum allowable transmit power of a wireless device. Instructions to reduce a maximum transmit power of wireless devices operating at a carrier band edge of a band channel maybe received at an access node. Power headroom reports may be collected from the wireless devices. The wireless devices may be classified based on the collected power headroom reports. Power reduction may be imposed on wireless devices classified as low power wireless devices and wireless devices classified as high power wireless devices may be handed off to a neighboring band channel.

Abstract: Access nodes in a network are configured to periodically measure cell loads and exchange cell load measurements with neighbors. At each access node, cell loads are compared with load thresholds, and with neighboring loads, to determine whether or not load balancing operations should be triggered. Load balancing operations include reducing or increasing an effective coverage area of one or both of the congested cell and the neighbor cell by adjusting a handover threshold parameter, such as a threshold signal level. Adjusting thresholds at a congested cell triggers more handovers from the congested cell to the non-congested cell. Similarly, adjusting thresholds at a non-congested cell prevents handovers from the non-congested cell to the congested cell.

Abstract: Link adaptation for an uplink channel is dynamically performed based on changes in uplink resources in the wireless network, the changes based on frame configuration. If the ratio of uplink to downlink subframes in the new frame configuration is smaller, the throughput is increased by increasing a modulation and coding scheme of the uplink channel, and transmit power of wireless devices. If the ratio of uplink to downlink subframes is increased in the new frame configuration, the throughput is decreased, and the wireless device is instructed to transmit using reduced transmit power.

Abstract: Interference caused between neighboring access nodes deploying wireless air-interface resources in different frame configurations while using the same frequency sub-band is mitigated by modifying the subframes deployed by a first access node by muting the subframes in the first frame configuration. Wireless resources from a different frequency sub-band can be aggregated towards the interfering subframes. A third access node adjacent to the first access node may deploy wireless resources in the first frame configuration and using the second frequency sub-band. A determination of how to reconfigure the interfering subframes is based on numbers of wireless devices in potential interference zones between each access node.

Abstract: Exemplary embodiments described herein include systems, methods, and nodes for managing channel quality for a relay wireless device. Interference experienced in one or more sectors of an access node that include a relay wireless device may be monitored. It may be determined that the monitored interference in at least one sector of the access node meets a mitigation criteria. One or more potential interfering sectors from access nodes neighboring the access node that are performing reference signal power boosting may be identified such that the potential interfering sectors are adjacent to the one sector of the access node. One or more neighboring access nodes may be instructed to selectively reduce reference signal power boosting in the potential interfering sectors.

The wireless device may join the group call after receiving an indication from the user, wherein joining the group call includes receiving downlink group call voice data from an access node in communication with the wireless device.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for determining a transmission scheme for a broadcast. Channel quality indicators may be tracked for a plurality of wireless devices. An average channel quality indicator may then be calculated based on the tracking for each of the plurality of wireless devices that subscribes to a broadcast transmission. A transmission scheme for the broadcast transmission may then be determined based on the average channel quality indicators, the transmission scheme comprising at least a modulation and coding scheme for the broadcast transmission. A set of access nodes may then be instructed to transmit the broadcast using the determined transmission scheme.
