Abstract:
A magnetic disk apparatus includes a rotation mechanism for driving a magnetic disk, a magnetic head slider being floated in close proximity to a surface of the magnetic disk, a recording/reproduction element for performing recording and playback of information, a drive unit for causing a distance between the record/reproduction element and the magnetic disk to change, and means for performing position determination of the magnetic head slider, wherein the apparatus has a detection unit for permitting the drive unit to gradually reduce the distance between the record/reproduction element and the magnetic disk and for detecting occurrence of contact therebetween, and a control unit for controlling the drive unit in such a way as to cause, the record/reproduction element to shift in position by a fixed amount to thereby let the distance between this element and magnetic disk increase accordingly.
Abstract:
A magnetic head slider, for sliding on a magnetic disk, which comprises a leading edge, a trailing edge, an air bearing surface having a front step bearing of submicron depth made from the leading edge, and a rail surface made from the front step bearing. A negative pressure recess, which is more profound than the front step bearing, is made from the rail surface, and a side step bearing with a depth identical to that of the front step bearing is made from the rail surface, wherein the ratio of depth R of the recess and depth δs of the front step bearing is R/δs≧5.
Abstract:
A magnetic disk drive includes a magnetic head slider, a magnetic head slider support mechanism for supporting the magnetic head slider and moving it to a predetermined position, and a load/unload mechanism for detaching the magnetic head slider from the surface of a magnetic disk or moving it thereto. When the magnetic head slider is detached from the magnetic disk surface for unloading, the magnetic head slider support mechanism is restrained against displacement in at least one direction perpendicular to the magnetic disk surface by a restraining part which is provided at a position, on other than the load/unload mechanism, between the magnetic head slider and a pivot of the magnetic head slider support mechanism.
Abstract:
A magnetic disk drive having a disk for storing information, a spindle motor for rotating the disk, a head for recording information into the disk and reproducing information from said disk, a suspension supporting a slider provided with the head, a carriage supporting the suspension, a voice coil motor for exerting a rotational torque to the carriage so as to locate the head on the disk, a base and a cover, and a ramp serving as a guide for unloading the head from the disk. A part of the suspension slides over the ramp so as to effect the unloading operation and the position or the posture of the ramp is changed by sliding movement of the part of the suspension over and with respect to the ramp during the unloading operation.
Abstract:
A film magnetic slider which comprises a slider performing contact-start-stop actions on a recording medium and being provided with a film magnetic head device on the side end of the slider, at least the recording-medium-contacting part of the slider being made from a sintered material having a thermal conductivity of not more than 0.02 cal/cm.sec..degree.C. and an average crystal grain size of not more than 5 .mu.m has a good slidability on the recording medium and a good machinability and can improve the life of the recording medium.
