The diffusion suppressing film also suppresses diffusion of the lubricant from the second space to the first space.

According to one embodiment, a lubricant droplet being adhered to a head slider and accumulated thereon, which are caused by extremely low flying height of the head slider, are prevented from falling onto a recording medium. When velocity of a recording medium at a position where the head slider faces the recording medium is assumed to be v, step depth δ4 at an outflow side of an outflow side rail satisfies, δ4≦0.1125*log10(v)+0.019.

    摘要: Embodiments of the present invention provide a magnetic head slider having a surface that is formed into a multiple step configuration to stabilize flying of the slider. According to one embodiment, a magnetic head slider has an air bearing surface including surfaces in three stages different in height from one another. An outflow side rail surface and inflow side rail surfaces, in a first stage are approximately the same in height. A rear step bearing surface, front step bearing surface, and side step bearing surfaces and, which are in a second stage, are shallow step surfaces being approximately the same in height, and being formed lower than the surfaces in the first stage. A deep cavity surface is formed further lower than the surfaces in the second stage. A film for preventing adhesion of organic contaminants and a lubricant is formed on the shallow step surfaces, and in the second stage.

The disk includes a track and has at least a load zone of a predetermined length in a peripheral direction thereof for performing loading of the magnetic head slider on a surface of the disk utilizing the load/unload mechanism, a specific pattern recorded in front of the load zone in the peripheral direction thereof, and a data zone provided in front of the specific pattern in the peripheral direction thereof. The controller reads out the specific pattern recorded on the disk utilizing the slider, and controls the position of the slider so as to move the slider while avoiding the load zone.

With this arrangement, the slider can follow the waved medium surface at a low flying height with a small flying height fluctuation, thus realizing high density recording, high reliability and reduced cost of the magnetic disk unit.

Ions exerting an effect of decreasing surface energy are implanted in the whole surface of a flying surface of a magnetic head slider except for a front rail surface and a center rail surface. According to this, contamination is prevented from being attached to a front step bearing surface, a side step bearing surface, a center step bearing surface and a negative pressure groove where contamination is particularly liable to be attached in the flying surface of the magnetic head slider, so as to suppress destabilization in flying of the slider.

    摘要: When a piezoelectric element is deformed in the direction of decreasing a flying height, a pressure at a trailing pad increases, and the flying height of a magnetic head is not efficiently decreased and may be increased conversely in some occasions.A position of contact between a suspension and a dimple is set toward a leading edge with respect to a piezoelectric element, and a pad for generating a positive pressure is disposed between the dimple and the piezoelectric element in addition to a trailing pad. Fluctuations of a positive pressure generated toward the leading edge with respect to the dimple are thus suppressed when the piezoelectric element is deformed.
