Abstract: A network has wireless enabled nodes of more than one hardware type. A computing device obtains a software update for one of the node types and sends an announcement of availability through the network. The announcement includes a node type identifier. A node that recognizes the identifier as matching its own hardware type collects the software update through a series of one or more requested packet transfers from the controller. Each packet carrying part of the update also includes the node type identifier. A node of a different type that has received the packets may serve as a source of missing packets to other nodes. Alternatively, nodes needing missing packets can fetch them from the computing device. When the software update is completely received by a node of the identified type, that node reboots and executes the updated software. Any node of another type discards the packets.

Abstract: An example of a technique for maintaining a previously calibrated mobile device positioning system to account for changes in perturbers of the Earth's magnetic field. A mobile device obtains a corrected heading estimate of the mobile device within a space based on a previously recorded heading correction value. The mobile device also calculates a device heading relative to a previously orientated map of the space. The mobile device subsequently updates the heading correction value with any deviation between the corrected heading estimate and the calculated device heading.

The selected nodes among the network of nodes are configured to transmit a number of test packets for each of a plurality of tests is greater than throughput saturation of the RF nodal network. The system includes a server coupled to the gateway and is configured to perform network performance analysis based on the test packets for each of the plurality of tests received by the gateway. The server updates parameter settings to optimize performance of the nodes of the RF nodal network to attain the target network performance metric based on a result of the network performance analysis.

Abstract: A lighting system includes lighting devices and an update manager. The lighting devices include various hardware versions and/or functionalities. The lighting devices are queried to determine existing hardware versions and/or functionalities. The query is sent via a wireless mesh network of the lighting system. An Over-The-Air (OTA) update includes multiple different lighting device programming images, where each image corresponds to one of the existing hardware versions and/or functionalities. The OTA update is delivered via point-to-point connections between the update manager and some number of lighting devices and/or between the lighting devices. Upon receipt, individual lighting devices determine whether a lighting device programming image is needed and/or which of the lighting device programming images is appropriate.
