    Abstract: In embodiments, a first 3D model of a patient's teeth based on first intraoral scan data taken at a first time is processed to recognize the teeth in the first 3D model. A second 3D model of the patient's teeth based on second intraoral scan data taken at a second time is processed to recognize the teeth in the second 3D model. The first 3D model is compared to the second 3D model and a plurality of AOIs in the second virtual 3D model representative of at least one of tooth wear, tooth breakage, tooth movement, gingival recession or gingival swelling are determined based on the comparison. The teeth recognized in the first 3D model are compared to the teeth recognized in the second 3D model, and one or more AOIs in the second virtual 3D model representative of tooth wear or tooth breakage are determined based on the comparison.

    Abstract: In a method of generating a virtual 3D model of a dental site, scan data comprising a plurality of images of a dental site is received during an intraoral scan. An analysis of an image is performed. A representation of a reference object with known properties is identified in the image based on the analysis. A virtual 3D model of the dental site is generated based on the plurality of images. The image and/or the virtual 3D model of the dental site is modified by adding additional data about the reference object to the intraoral image and/or the virtual 3D model based on the one or more known properties of the reference object. If the image is modified, it may be modified prior to generation of the virtual 3D model, and the virtual 3D model may be generated using the modified image.

    Abstract: In a method of generating a virtual 3D model of a dental site, scan data comprising an intraoral image is received during an intraoral scan of a dental site. A representation of a foreign object is identified in the intraoral image based on an analysis of the scan data. The intraoral image is modified by removing the representation of the foreign object from the intraoral image. Additional scan data comprising a plurality of additional intraoral images of the dental site is received during the intraoral scan. A virtual 3D model of the dental site is then generated using the modified intraoral image and the plurality of additional intraoral images.

    Abstract: A method includes receiving first intraoral scan data of an intraoral site, the first intraoral scan data having been generated at a first time, receiving second intraoral scan data of the intraoral site, the second intraoral scan data having been generated at a second time that is later than the first time, and analyzing the second intraoral scan data of the intraoral site relative to the first intraoral scan data of the intraoral site.     Abstract: A method includes receiving first scan data of an intraoral site and generating a three-dimensional (3D) model comprising the intraoral site. A user selection of a portion of the 3D model is received, and the portion of the 3D model is locked. After locking the portion of the 3D model, second scan data of the intraoral site is received. The 3D model is then updated with the second scan data, wherein a first portion of the second scan data that also depicts the locked portion of the 3D model is not used for updating the 3D model, and wherein a second portion of the second scan data is used for updating the 3D model, the second portion of the second scan data being combined with the first scan data to account for discrepancies of overlapping data between the first scan data and the second scan data.

    Abstract: A processing device receives a first intraoral image of a first region of a dental site and a second intraoral image of a second region of the dental site during an intraoral scan session. The processing device determines that the first intraoral does not overlap with the second intraoral image. The processing device registers the first intraoral image to the second intraoral image in a three-dimensional space according to a historical template, wherein the historical template is a virtual model of the dental site as generated from additional intraoral images taken during a previous intraoral scan session.

    Abstract: Improved dental models for use in dental procedures are provided. In one aspect, a unitary dental model of an intraoral cavity of a patient having a dental implant comprises a physical surface representative of gingival tissue of the patient. The model can comprise a channel shaped and oriented to receive an abutment corresponding to a physical abutment to be connected to the dental implant, in which the channel extends to an opening in the physical surface. The channel can comprise a first portion shaped to receive and constrain a corresponding structure of the abutment to a position and orientation and a second portion shaped to receive a fastener to couple the abutment to the unitary dental model. In many embodiments, the first portion comprises a shoulder shaped to receive the corresponding structure of the abutment in order to position the abutment along the channel.
