Abstract:
This invention relates to novel phosphate esters of the formula
WHEREIN A. R1-R4 are independently fluorine, chlorine or alkyl or haloalkyl groups of one to 10 carbon atoms; B. A is a radical of the formula -(CFR5-CR6R7)- in which R5 and R6 are independently fluorine or hydrogen, and R7 is hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine or perfluoroalkyl; C. X1-X4 are independently hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine or bromine, provided that X1-X4 do not include more than two chlorine atoms or one bromine atom; D. Z is selected from the group consisting of chlorine, hydroxy, amino, substituted amino and OY wherein Y is a hydrocarbyl or hydroxy-substituted hydrocarbyl, or a water solubilizing cationic ion. E. M IS AN INTEGER FROM 1 TO 10, N IS AN INTEGER FROM 0 TO 10 AND W IS AN INTEGER FROM 1 TO 3. Said phosphate esters are useful for imparting oil and stain repellent properties to various materials, especially to paper.
Abstract:
Propionic and butyric acids substituted in the 3- or 4-position, respectively, with a fluorinated alkoxy group, said alkoxy group terminated with a highly fluorinated branched chain or cyclic fluoroalkoxy group, their nitrile precursors and their esters, salt, amide, N-substituted amide and acid halide derivatives. These compounds are useful as surface-active agents and as oil and water repellency agents.
