Abstract: Embodiments of efeMTC synchronization signals for enhanced cell search and enhanced system information acquisition are described. In some embodiments, an apparatus of a base station (BS) is configured to generate a length-x sequence for an efeMTC synchronization signal, the length-x sequence configured for repetition in frequency domain within 6 physical resource blocks (PRB). In some embodiments, to generate the length-x sequence, the BS may be configured to select any one index of the set of root indices {1, 2, . . . , 63}, excluding the root indices 25, 29 and 34, to correspond to a different physical-layer cell identity (PCID). In some embodiments, the BS may be configured to encode RRC signaling to include a System Information Block (SIB) comprising configuration information for transmission of the efeMTC synchronization signal, and transmit the length-x sequence as the efeMTC synchronization signal in frequency resources according to the SIB.

Abstract: Embodiments of a User Equipment (UE), an Evolved Node-B (eNB), and methods for communication of uplink messages are generally described herein. The UE may receive, from an eNB, one or more downlink control messages that may indicate an allocation of PUCCH channel resources. The UE may transmit an uplink control message in at least a portion of the allocated PUCCH channel resources. When the PUCCH channel resources are allocated according to an edge configuration, the PUCCH channel resources may be restricted to a lower edge portion and an upper edge portion of the network channel resources. When the PUCCH channel resources are allocated according to a distributed configuration, the PUCCH channel resources may include one or more middle portions of the network channel resources. The middle portions may be exclusive to the lower edge and upper edge portions.

Abstract: Provided herein are method and apparatus for perform radio link monitoring (RLM) based on a Reference signal (RS). An embodiment provides a user Equipment (UE) comprising circuitry configured to: decode a Reference Signal (RS) received from an access node; and determine beam quality for one or more beam pair links (BPLs) of the RS between the UE and the access node based on the decoded RS, wherein each of the BPLs comprises a transmit (Tx) beam of the access node and a receive (Rx) beam of the UE. Also provided is a procedure of RLM. At least some embodiments allow for beam recovery request for UE beam refinement, and allow for determining whether radio link failure (RLF) occurs.

Abstract: Embodiments of a User Equipment (UE) to operate in accordance with a physical random access channel (PRACH) are disclosed herein. The UE may comprise hardware processing circuitry to determine a coverage enhancement category for the UE based on downlink channel statistics related to reception of downlink signals at the UE from an Evolved Node-B (eNB) and an uplink-downlink imbalance parameter related to uplink reception at the eNB. The hardware processing circuitry may be further to select, for use in a coverage enhancement mode, a PRACH preamble from a set of candidate PRACH preambles based on the determined coverage enhancement category for the UE. In some embodiments, at least some of the candidate PRACH preambles may span a different number of sub-frames.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) can include processing circuitry configured to decode system information block (SIB) information including a PRACH configuration index. The PRACH configuration index indicates at least a first preamble format and a second preamble format. A PRACH preamble is encoded for transmission to a base station within a PRACH resource indicated by the PRACH configuration index. The PRACH preamble is associated with the first preamble format or the second preamble format. A random access channel response (RAR) message from the base station is decoded. The RAR message includes an uplink grant for scheduling a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) transmission. Data is encoded for transmission on the PUSCH based on the uplink grant. The PRACH resource comprises a plurality of PRACH occasions, where the PRACH preamble is transmitted within a PRACH occasion from the plurality of PRACH occasions with a starting symbol indicated by the PRACH configuration index.
