Abstract: An aerosol-generating system includes a cartridge and an aerosol-generating device. The cartridge includes a cartridge housing, a first aerosol-forming substrate and a second aerosol-forming substrate in the cartridge housing. The aerosol-generating device defines a cavity configured to receive at least a portion of the cartridge along a first direction and the aerosol-generating device includes a transfer element extending from an end wall of the cavity, the transfer element having a longitudinal axis extending substantially parallel to the first direction, the transfer element contacts the second aerosol-forming substrate when the portion of the cartridge is in the cavity, an electric heater including a resistive heating coil wrapped around a portion of the transfer element, the resistive heating coil being wrapped around the longitudinal axis of the transfer element, a power supply, and a controller configured to control a supply of electrical power to the electric heater.

Abstract: The aerosol-generating device includes a device housing, and a receiving chamber defined within the device housing. The receiving chamber is configured to receive at least a first-type consumable and a second-type consumable, the receiving chamber including a first structure for receiving the first-type consumable and a second structure for receiving the second-type consumable. A structure selector selects between the first structure and the second structure, the first and second structures differing in at least one of a shape, a size and a position within the receiving chamber. An aerosolization system is included with at least a portion of the receiving chamber, where the receiving chamber is configured to prevent an insertion of more than one consumable into the receiving chamber.

Abstract: The method includes electrically connecting a first line and a second line to a first terminal and a second terminal, the first line and the second line being in parallel, first configuring an aerosol-generator and a first barrier element within the first line, and second configuring an identifying element and a second barrier element within the second line. The first barrier element and the second barrier element each have an asymmetric electrical conductance. The first and second configuring configures the aerosol-generating system so that a first electrical current applied through the first and second terminal in a first direction allows the first electrical current to pass through the identifying element without activating the aerosol-generator, and a second electrical current applied through the first and second terminal in a second direction allows the second electrical current to activate the aerosol-generator without the second electrical current passing through the identifying element.

Abstract: An aerosol-generating device comprises a device housing comprising a first receiving chamber configured to receive and accommodate a first consumable and a second receiving chamber configured to receive and accommodate a second consumable. The device further comprises a power source in an internal space defined by the device housing and a controller configured to control aerosolization of an aerosol-forming substrate in a consumable in one of the first receiving chamber and in the second receiving chamber. At least the second receiving chamber includes electrical contacts configured to be detachably connected to a battery based on the separate power source being in the second receiving chamber such that the electrical contacts provide additional power from the separate power source to the aerosol-generating device.
