    摘要: A telecommunications system for improving quality of service (QoS) to users via the implementation of an extended outer loop power control algorithm. A radio resource manager (RRM) operates to determine the number of channels allotted to users within a network at a certain time. The RRM implements the extended outer loop power control algorithm for each allotted channel, thus determining SIR reference values for each allotted channel. the RRM ensures that the SIR reference value for any channel does not fall bellow a predetermined minimum value. The SIR reference value to be used for all channels in use is determined as the highest of all the calculated SIR reference values. The extended outer loop power control algorithm can be implemented at a mobile station level, base station level or radio network controller level.

    摘要: In one aspect, a method and apparatus derive channel quality estimates for given subcarriers in an OFDM signal, based on reference signal (RS) or other known-signal measurements made for another set of subcarriers. In at least one embodiment, a wireless communication apparatus implements a method whereby it is configured for receiving reference information on the first set of subcarriers; generating the first channel quality estimates in the frequency domain, based on the received reference information; computing a power delay profile for the first set of subcarriers; and determining the second channel quality estimates either by extrapolating from the first channel quality estimates or as an average of the first channel quality estimates, depending on a delay spread of the power delay profile.

    摘要: A method of detecting a desired signal within a composite signal provides for suppression of interfering signal(s). The method, implemented in a wireless communication apparatus, for example, includes receiving the composite signal and obtaining sample values therefrom. At least some of the sample values include desired and interfering signal components. The method further includes generating an interfering signal channel estimate by: forming sample pairs for some or all of the sample values; identifying sample pairs of interest as those sample pairs in which the interfering signal component is the same; and calculating the interfering signal channel estimate as an average value determined from one or more of the sample pairs of interest. The method further includes detecting desired signal symbols from the composite signal in a joint detection process that functionally depends on the interfering signal channel estimate.

    摘要: Disclosed is a method of generating a detection signal for detecting energy in a spread-spectrum signal, comprising: de-spreading the spread-spectrum signal by applying a predetermined spreading code to obtain a sequence of de-spread signal symbols (202A-202D); accumulating a number of said signal symbols to obtain a single detection signal. The accumulation includes: obtaining a first and a second subset of said de-spread signal symbols, wherein the symbols of the first subset have values that are known to the receiver or at least known to be the same for all symbols of the first subset, and wherein the symbols of the second subset have unknown values; coherently accumulating the symbols of the first subset to obtain a first partial detection signal (203A, 203B, 203C); non-coherently accumulating the symbols of the second subset to obtain a second partial detection signal (204A, 204B, 204C); and combining the first and second partial detection signals to obtain the single detection signal (208).

    摘要: Methods and apparatus for determining when uplink synchronization has been achieved when entering or adding a link in soft handover to a new node in a communication system. Transmit power control (TPC) commands from the new link are not included in a TPC command combination until an uplink synchronization detector determines that synchronization has been achieved. Since in many communication systems, a pattern of TPC commands is transmitted on the new downlink as long as the new node's uplink is not synchronized, the uplink synchronization detector can determine whether synchronization has been achieved by determining whether the TPC command pattern is present in the new downlink. In this way, the UL synchronization detector reduces the occurrence and magnitude of unwanted peaks and dips in uplink transmitted power.

    摘要: According to the teachings presented herein, wireless communication network interference is reduced by sending handover measurement information from mobile stations in conjunction with sending uplink scheduling requests, and by correspondingly making combined handover and uplink resource scheduling decisions. In this context, the combined decision considers both the handover measurement information and the uplink scheduling request, and determines whether a serving cell grants or denies the request and whether handover from the serving cell to a neighboring cell is or is not initiated for the mobile station. The combined determination provides for timely handover of the mobile station, such as where the mobile station is operating near a cell edge and issues an uplink scheduling request to its currently serving cell.
