Abstract: An electrical power blade connector includes a dielectric housing having a mating cavity for receiving a mating connector inserted into the cavity through an open front end thereof in a mating direction. A pair of blade support arms project forwardly within the cavity. The support arms are spaced laterally of the mating direction. Each support arm has a pair of spaced grooves which open toward the other support arm. The grooves extend in the mating direction. A pair of blade terminals are supported in the pairs of grooves in the pair of support arms in spaced, generally parallel planes.

Abstract: A water-base fluid for use in drilling, cementing, workover, fracturing and abandonment of subterranean wells through a formation containing shale which swells in the presence of water. In one illustrative embodiment, the drilling fluid is composed of an aqueous based continuos phase, a weighting agent, and a shale hydration inhibition agent. The shale hydration inhibition agent should have the general formula: in which R and R′ independently selected from hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or propyl, and X has a value from 1 to 6. The shale hydration inhibition agent is present in sufficient concentration to substantially reduce the swelling of shale drilling cuttings upon contact with the drilling fluid. The drilling fluid may be formulated to include a wide variety of components of aqueous based drilling fluids, such as weighting agents, fluid loss control agents, suspending agents, viscosifying agents, rheology control agents, as well as other compounds and materials known to one of skill in the art. The fluids may also be used in fracturing and the disposal by reinjection of drilling cutting into a selected subterranean disposal formation.

Abstract: A water based drilling fluid for use in drilling a subterranean well through a subterranean formation that swells in the presence of water, the drilling fluid is formulated to include: an aqueous based continuous phase; a weight material; an optional shale hydration inhibition agent and a shale encapsulator. The shale encapsulator is preferably a quaternized polyvinyl alcohol having the formula (I) in which x and y have a value so that the molecular weight of the cation is in the range of about 10,000 to about 200,000 AMU; A is selected from C1-C6 alkyl, C2-C6 ether or C2-C6 amide; R, R′ and R″ are independently selectable C1-C3 alkyl; and B is a charge balancing anion to the quarternary amine. The shale hydration inhibition agent and the shale encapsulator may be present in sufficient concentrations to reduce the swelling of the subterranean formation in the presence of water. Conventional additives may be included into the formulation of the drilling fluid, such conventional additives may include: fluid loss control agents, alkaline reserve and other pH control agents, bridging agents, lubricants, anti-bit balling agents, corrosion inhibition agents, surfactants and solids suspending agents as well as mixtures and combination of these and similar compounds that should be known to one of skill in the art.

Abstract: A water-base wellbore fluid for use in subterranean wells that penetrate through a subterranean formation containing a shale which swells in the presence of water. The well bore fluid includes, an aqueous based continuous phase, and a shale hydration inhibition agent. One illustrative shale hydration inhibition agent is preferably the reaction product of a hydrogenation reaction of the product of the reaction of an aromatic amine with an aldehyde, preferably formaldehyde. Alternatively the shale hydration inhibition agent may be the reaction product of a hydrogenation reaction of the product of the reaction of aniline and formaldehyde. In one illustrative embodiment, the shale hydration inhibition agent is selected from the class of compounds known as polycycloaliphatic amines. The shale hydration inhibition agent may be present in the form of a free-base or preferably in the form of an acid salt of the disclosed amine compounds. The shale hydration inhibition agent is present in sufficient concentration to substantially reduce the swelling of shale drilling cuttings upon contact with the fluid.

Abstract: An electrical connector is capable of easy conversion from a receptacle connector to a blade connector. A dielectric housing includes an elongated receptacle for receiving a blade terminal of an appropriate mating blade connector. At least one connector terminal is mounted on the housing and includes a contact portion exposed in the receptacle to form a receptacle connector and for engaging the blade terminal of the mating blade connector. Abstract: An electrical connector includes a dielectric housing having a terminal-receiving passage for insertion thereinto of a terminal. The terminal includes a cantilevered spring contact arm projecting into the passage for engagement by an appropriate conductor inserted into the passage. The terminal further includes an engagement arm projecting into the passage behind the cantilevered spring contact arm at a location to perform the dual function of providing an anti-overstress engagement surface for the spring contact arm and providing an engagement shoulder for an insertion tool which forces the terminal into the terminal-receiving passage of the housing. Abstract: An electrical terminal pin is provided with a pin tip for insertion into a mating electrical female terminal, a hole in a printed circuit board or the like. The pin has an electrically conductive core plated with an electrically conductive layer. The pin tip is formed of a generally rounded pyramidal configuration defining four slightly curved convex sides joined at four edges converging at a pin end. Two opposite sides of the pin tip are non-plated. The other two opposite sides of the pin tip are plated with the conductive layer. Portions of the conductive plating layer overlap the edges of the pin tip in a smooth or rounded configuration to eliminate any sharpness thereof and to provide additional plated areas over the exposed core material. The pin tip is formed by a cutting and coining operation to form the configuration of the tip and to coin the overlapping portions of the conductive plating layer over the sharp edges of the pin tip.
