    摘要: A hydraulic control system for controlling a retainer valve in an underwater well test system. The control system is contained in a housing in the test string above the retainer valve. The control system and valve are operated by a surface control manifold via control conduits extending between the manifold and control system housing. The system provides opening and closing and very quick closure of the retainer valve by eliminating the requirement for closing pressure to be conducted through a long conduit from surface and by utilizing well pressure to close the valve and lock the valve closed. One embodiment of the control system requires a pressure pulse from surface to start quick retainer valve closure. Another embodiment of the control system monitors control conduits for loss of pressure while the retainer valve is open and automatically closes the valve on loss of control pressure. This control system permits killing fluid to be pumped through the retainer valve into the well after automatic closure or control system operation to reopen the valve and monitor.

The mandrel is telescopically engaged in the housing for movement between a first traveling position at which the coupling collet connects a large size section of a tool train with a small size section and a second release position at which the small size tool train section is released from the parking tool. The housing includes a parking collet operated by movement of the coupling collet for releasably locking the parking tool in the landing nipple when the coupling collet moves to a release position. The landing nipple is a dual wall flow conductor having an inner parking tube including a stop shoulder and a locking recess and fluid bypass ports longitudinally spaced on either side of the parking position of the parking tool and an outer housing defining an annular bypass flow passage between the ports.

    摘要: In accordance with the present invention, a downhole separation tool is provided which utilizes a downhole separation chamber with a series of fluid regulators responsive to a formation fluid and constituent components for separate desirable formation yields from the less desirable yields prior to lifting the fluids to the surface. The separation chamber has an input for the formation fluid, a production output, and a disposal output, in a tree arrangement according to the density order of the fluids in the separation chamber. The input flow regulator is coupled to the separation chamber input, the production regulator is coupled to the production output, and the disposal regulator is coupled to the disposal output. Each of the regulators are responsive to a fluid density of the formation fluid, first constituent and remainder constituent, accordingly, to regulate the flow of the respective fluid. According to a method of the present invention of separating a production fluid downhole, a production fluid is flowed from a subterranean formation into a separation chamber. The production fluid is separated over a given residence time period into a series of constituent layers. The first constituent, such as oil, is lifted in a generally continuously manner when under sufficient pressure to the surface, and the remainder constituent, such as salt water, is disposed to a disposal layer in the subterranean formation.

    摘要: A tool and method for managing fluid flow in a well use flow control and monitoring functions. A particular tool provides valve and metering functions combined with electrical generator and pump functions. Two of these tools can be used such that one generates electricity downhole to power the other tool to operate as a pump or other flow control. A method of managing fluid flow in a well includes operating the tool in either a generator mode or a pump mode. The tool, which is a flow control device, has a body in which an opening is defined between an annulus outside the body and a flow channel inside. The tool also has a flow control body, a rotor and electromagnetic members. A method includes moving the flow control body, the rotor, and the electromagnetic members together to selectively block or unblock the opening. In a particular version of this method, this movement is axially within the body of the flow control device. A method also includes: producing a fluid from a subterranean formation into the well; separating, in the well, water from hydrocarbons of the fluid; and reinjecting, from within the well, the separated water. Another definition of the method includes generating electricity in the well and operating a pump in the well with the electricity.

    摘要: A retainer valve provides increased safety in wellsite operations. In a preferred embodiment, operation of the retainer valve may be responsive to control line pressure or to tubing pressure. The retainer valve response is controlled by several factors, among which are relative tubing and balance line pressures, and axial positions of a number of pistons relative to a tubular J-slot member. If the control and balance lines are disconnected, or otherwise unavailable for operation of the valve, it may still be operated by manipulation of the tubing pressure at the earth's surface. Thus, the valve may be opened in emergency situations in which the control and balance lines are unavailable, but operation of the valve is still needed in order to safely relieve trapped pressure in the tubing string and/or to kill the well, unlatch a subsea test tree, etc. The retainer valve is also useful as a lubricator valve.

    摘要: Installed in the tubing string portion of an offshore well rig are a vertically spaced pair of tubular well line protective devices. The upper device extends vertically through the openings in the rig floor and the rotary table thereon, and the lower device is positioned between a pair of sealing rams within an open upper end portion of the riser through which the tubing downwardly extends. Each protective device has a main body portion which is radially enlarged relative to the balance of the tubing string, and a removable side insert portion. Well lines, such as control, chemical and balancing lines, are extended through axial openings combinatively defined by each body and associated insert, with the insert shielding the lines from damage at the protective device location. The removable insert is illustrated in an all metal construction, used in the upper device, and an all elastomeric material construction or an elastomer-faced metal construction used in the lower device. The lower protective device is positioned between a pair of sealing rams. When the sealing rams close, the elastomeric portion of the insert portion of the lower device protects its associated well line portions from damage, and automatically creates seals around them, to block off the tubing/riser annulus and prevent leaking gas flow upwardly therethrough past the closed sealing rams. A bypass pipe structure disposed below the sealing rams diverts gas leakage outwardly past the rig when the rams are closed.

    摘要: The present invention discloses a method and apparatus for a well testing or production facility system. More particularly, but not by way of limitation, the invention discloses a method and apparatus to transfer crude oil from a separator to an oil pipeline, or alternatively, to a burner flare. The method includes collecting oil in a separator, and then transferring the oil to a first, second, and third pump cylinder. The oil is sequentially forced from the cylinders by high pressure gas, and after being drained, the cylinders are again filled with crude oil. The apparatus includes a separator, a first, second and third pump cylinder which will sequentially receive crude oil. Sensing means are associated with the pump cylinders for sensing the level of crude oil within the cylinders. A control system is utilized to cycle a high pressure gas or air into each of the cylinders in order to force the oil out of the cylinders.

The electrical system uses multiple microprocessors to send, validate, and execute commands.
