摘要: A feed block is formed of compacted feed components and includes a moisture level of between about 7 and about 15 percent. Feed blocks have an initial weight, which is substantially free of liquid, and liquid is introduced to the feed block to cause the feed block to absorb liquid. A final resulting weight of the feed block is at least 100 percent greater than the initial weight. The feed block with the absorbed liquid is provided the to the livestock animals for the simultaneous ingestion of feed and liquid. Feed blocks are formed by introducing feed components in a high pressure press and compacting the feed components to form the feed block.

摘要: A process for the production of a floating aquatic food pellet is disclosed which avoids the use of extrusion-expansion equipment to provide floatability. Conventional pelleting equipment may be used to produce a pellet from farinaceous-proteinaceous mixtures, which contains sufficient expanded grain particles to provide buoyancy or floatability. A hardenable or vitrifiable matrix containing a liquid carbohydrate material, a water soluble phosphorous source, a colloid material and an alkaline earth oxide is included to prevent compaction of the expanded grain particles during pelleting and provide structural integrity and floatability to permit feeding by an aquatic species.

摘要: A method of forming an aquatic gel by forming a gelling component containing a gelling agent and a gas-forming agent, providing an acidic component containing an acidic agent in combining the gelling component and the acidic component with water at an elevated temperature and then permitting the mixture to set and form a gel. The combination of the acidic component, the gelling component and water is effective to form gas bubbles in the gel such that a density of less than about 1.0 g per ml is created.

摘要: A firm, flexible feed gel that provides animals, especially non-human primates such as orangutans, with fiber. The gel comprises a gelling agent, added-fiber, and water. While nutritional foods consumed by animals, both natural and manufactured, can contain certain amounts of fiber, the amount of fiber can be insufficient in maintaining the health of the animal. The invention provides a firm, flexible gel that contains an amount of fiber that is over and above the amount of fiber normally found in the animal's nutritional foods, i.e., it provides added-fiber. A method of preparing the gel comprises: (i) providing a gelling agent, a source of added-fiber, and water; (ii) blending the gelling agent and the added-fiber to form a mixture; (iii) combining the water and the mixture to form a homogeneous mass; (iv) transferring the homogeneous mass into a mold; and (v) cooling the homogeneous mass to form the firm, flexible feed gel. The gel can be frozen in one or more molds, stabilized, and/or reduced to a powder (which can later be rehydrated).

摘要: Firm, flexible animal feed gel are prepared by a method comprises the steps of: A. Forming a liquid animal feed at a temperature above ambient temperature; B. Passing the liquid animal feed through a pipe cooled to a temperature below the temperature of the liquid animal feed of step (A) such that the feed solidifies to a stiff, flexible gel while in the pipe; and C. Collecting the gel as the gel exits the pipe. The pipe may be straight or coiled, and it may be cooled through the effect of a cooling jacket or container. The composition of the animal is feed is predominantly water containing at least one gelling agent and at least one source of protein, typically an animal-derived protein such as fish or poultry meal.

摘要: A feed dispenser which is eminently suitable for wild bird feeding may be collapsed to a compact condition for shipment and storage and readily erected for feed dispensing. The feed dispenser or feeder is comprised of a bottom tray with foldably connected end walls, a cover which is releasably supported by the end walls in the erected condition and a replaceable feed container which may be positioned on the feed dispenser tray and then caused to dispense the feed.
