摘要: A firm, flexible feed gel that provides animals, especially non-human primates such as orangutans, with fiber. The gel comprises a gelling agent, added-fiber, and water. While nutritional foods consumed by animals, both natural and manufactured, can contain certain amounts of fiber, the amount of fiber can be insufficient in maintaining the health of the animal. The invention provides a firm, flexible gel that contains an amount of fiber that is over and above the amount of fiber normally found in the animal's nutritional foods, i.e., it provides added-fiber. A method of preparing the gel comprises: (i) providing a gelling agent, a source of added-fiber, and water; (ii) blending the gelling agent and the added-fiber to form a mixture; (iii) combining the water and the mixture to form a homogeneous mass; (iv) transferring the homogeneous mass into a mold; and (v) cooling the homogeneous mass to form the firm, flexible feed gel. The gel can be frozen in one or more molds, stabilized, and/or reduced to a powder (which can later be rehydrated).

摘要: Improved, intermediate moisture sweetened gelled food compositions comprise: A) about 55 to 85% by weight nutritive carbohydrate sweeteners; B) sufficient amounts of a gelling system to provide a gel strength of about 1-8 kg/cm2; C) about 10% to 20% moisture. The gelling system comprises high methoxyl pectin and kappa carrageenan. The gelling system allows for a high solids level but a low viscosity when maintained above 130° F. Also disclosed are methods for the preparation of such gelled products involving forming a hot fluid high solids gellable slurry, forming the hot fluid gellable slurry into pieces such as by starch molding and curing to form gelled food product in the form of pieces of about 1 to 5 g. By virtue of the high solids concentrations the duration of the curing step is greatly reduced.

摘要: Nutritionally balanced, firm, flexible gels are prepared in shapes attractive to animals, e.g. in the shape of fish for fish-eating animals, the gels comprising: A. At least one gelling agent, e.g. a gelatin and/or a gum; B. At least one animal protein; and C. Water. The gel optionally comprises other nutritionally valuable ingredients such as various oils and fats, plant protein, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and the like. In one embodiment, the gel is prepared by first blending the appropriate ingredients into a homogenous mass, casting the mass into a block, and then cutting the block into the desired shapes using a patterned cutter.
