摘要： The present invention relates to a veterinary supplement composition for preventing colic that includes simethicone and optionally sorbitol. The veterinary supplement composition is administered orally by syringe or mixed with animal feed. The veterinary supplement composition can be liquid or powder. Dosage is determined by body weight from about 1 mL per 400 pounds of body weight to about 1.2 mL per 400 pounds of body weight. Palatants can be added to improve animal taste likability. Such Palatants can include mint, apple, cinnamon, peppermint, banana, and others. The oral supplement can also be used in the prevention of colic in horses.

摘要： Processes to produce microorganisms that can be incorporated into a microbial-based product that results in high viable cell yields and shelf-stable products are disclosed. These microbial-based products are useful for inhibiting pathogenic growth and as a food additive. A preferred microorganism is a lactic acid producing bacteria. In one embodiment, the process comprises inoculating either a fermentation medium with enterococcus or pediococcus bacterial cells, harvesting the enterococcus or pediococcus bacterial cells at least partially during the log phases, concentrating the bacterial cells, and preserving the bacterial cells at a concentration of at least 5×109 cfu/ml.

摘要： Provided herein are methods for altering a characteristic of an offspring or a litter. The method can include administering an effective amount of a composition that includes active IGF-1 to a pregnant animal, wherein a characteristic of an offspring of the pregnant animal is altered compared to a control offspring. In another embodiment, the animal is a lactating animal, wherein a characteristic of an offspring nursed by the lactating animal is altered compared to a control offspring. Examples of characteristics that can be altered include increased survival of offspring before weaning, increased weight of offspring at weaning, increased weight of offspring at end of growing phase, increased average daily gain, and increased average daily food intake. In another embodiment, a characteristic of a litter can be altered, such as increased number of offspring born alive, increased litter birth weight, increased offspring birth weight, reduced number of stillborn offspring, or a combination thereof.
