    Abstract: An electric machine includes a stator core and a hairpin winding. The stator core defines slots that are circumferentially arranged between an inner diameter and an outer diameter of the stator core. Each slot has a plurality of pin positions that is arranged in a direction that extends from the inner diameter toward the outer diameter. The hairpin winding has a plurality of paths of interconnected hairpins that correspond to a first electrical phase of the electric machine. The hairpins are arranged to occupy a portion of the pin positions according to a pattern that repeats at angular intervals along a circumference of the stator core. The pattern includes hairpins occupying each pin position within a first of the slots, harpins occupying exactly half the pin positions within a second of the slots, and harpins occupying exactly half the pin positions within a third of the slots.

    Abstract: An electric machine winding assembly including a stator and windings is provided. The stator may define a central axis. The windings may extend from the stator and each may include a pair of conductor ends. Each conductor end may include a minor side and a major side. The windings are arranged with the stator such that each of the major sides are aligned along a circumferential conductor axis relative to the central axis to facilitate welding adjacent conductor ends to one another. Each of the windings may further include two portions defining a U shape. Each of the two portions may include a lower portion, a mid-portion, and an upper portion. One of the mid-portions may include a first bend defining a twist shape to orient the major sides of one of the pair of conductor ends along the circumferential conductor axis.

    Abstract: A rotor for a permanent magnet electric machine has a lamination stack formed from a plurality of laminations arranged in a stack defining a void having a magnet-receiving portion and at least one flux barrier portion contiguous therewith. A magnet is disposed in the magnet-receiving portion, and some but not all of the laminations forming the stack include a positioner projecting into the flux barrier portion such that the positioners form a series of spaced-apart shelves retaining the magnet within the magnet-receiving portion. The shelves are spaced apart from one another by one or more of the laminations having no positioner.

    Abstract: An electric machine assembly including a housing and a stator is provided. The housing may define a cavity and an inner surface having pockets spaced radially about a housing central axis. The stator may be disposed within the cavity and define an outer surface having tabs spaced from one another radially about a stator central axis and each tab including opposing circumferential sides. The housing and stator may be arranged with one another such that each of the opposing circumferential sides contacts a side of a respective pocket to create interference therebetween. Each tab may further include a tab outer surface and each of the pockets may be sized such that a space is defined between each tab outer surface and a respective pocket side.

    Abstract: A vehicle may include an electric machine. The electric machine may include a stator surrounding sections stacked to form a rotor. Each of the sections may have nested pairs of permanent magnets radially spaced from a rotational axis of the rotor. Corresponding pairs of permanent magnets of each of the sections may be aligned along a direction of the rotational axis. Corresponding chambers adjacent to the permanent magnets may have different shapes such that corresponding pole arc angles are different.
