摘要: An apparatus and method for diagnosing rotating equipment commonly used in the factory and process control industry are provided. The apparatus and method are intended for use in assisting a maintenance engineer in the diagnosis of turbines, compressors, fans, blowers and pumps. The preferred embodiments are an apparatus and method for diagnosing pumps, with a focus on centrifugal pumps. The apparatus and method are based on the comparison of the current pump signature curves resulting from the acquisition of process variables from sensors monitoring the current condition of the pump and the original or previous pump performance curve from prior monitoring or knowledge of the pump geometry, installation effects and properties of the pumped process liquid. The diagnostic apparatus and method can be applied to any rotating machine, but the apparatus and method for pumps are described herein.

摘要: A two-wire field-mounted process device with multiple isolated channels includes a channel that can be an input channel or an output channel. The given input or output channel can couple to multiple sensors or actuators, respectively. The process device is wholly powered by the two-wire process control loop. The process device includes a controller adapted to measure one or more characteristics of sensors coupled to an input channel and to control actuators coupled to an output channel. The controller can be further adapted to execute a user generated control algorithm relating process input information with process output commands. The process device also includes a loop communicator that is adapted to communicate over the two-wire loop.

摘要: A pressure transmitter with an output predicting the magnitude of error in the pressure transmitter's output. A pressure sensor is adapted to sense a process pressure. A controller coupled to the pressure sensor generates a transmitter output representing the process pressure. A memory stores predetermined data predicting magnitudes of transmitter output error as a function of cumulative excessive sensor output levels, and also stores a record of cumulative excessive sensor output levels. The controller calculates a predicted present magnitude of transmitter output error as a function of the accumulated record and the predetermined data, and generates the prediction output.

摘要: A ribbon for a thermal printer has a series of frames of different colors in a sequence that are correlated to the position of cards to be printed. The ribbon has indexing marks for each frame and also indicators for each repeating sequence of frames. The index marks are arranged in a line across the ribbon and the marks can be coded to individually indicate the color or other characteristic of the frame associated with the line of index mark. This information is received by a controller to control various printer functions.

摘要: A circuit for compensating variables in a measurement transmitter. Within the transmitter, a sensor senses a primary process variable such as differential pressure and a converter digitizes the sensed process variable. The sensor senses pressures within a span of pressures values. A memory inside the transmitter stores at least two membership functions, each membership function having a non-zero value over a predetermined region of the process variable span and a substantially zero value over the remainder of the span. The memory also stores a set of compensation formulas, each formula corresponding to a membership function. A selection circuit in the transmitter selects those membership functions which have a non-zero value at the digitized process variable and a correction circuit provides at least one correction value, each correction value calculated from a compensation formula corresponding to a selected membership function. A weighting circuit multiplies each correction value by its corresponding selected membership function, and combines the multiplicands to provide a compensated process variable. The compensated process variable is coupled to a control circuit connecting the transmitter to a control system.

摘要: In this invention, a valve positioner receives a setpoint from a master and provides a control pressure to a valve actuator for controlling a valve. A sensing circuit in the positioner senses the position of the valve and the control pressure, and a control circuit in the positioner uses both the sensed pressure and position to provide a command output to a pneumatic section which produces the control pressure. In another embodiment of the invention, a positioner receives a setpoint from a master and provides a control pressure to a valve actuator for controlling a valve. A sensing circuit in the positioner senses the valve position and pneumatics in the positioner provide the control pressure as a function of the sensed position and an output from a control circuit within the positioner. The positioner includes a diagnostic circuit which stores a valve attribute and provides a diagnostic output as a function of the stored valve characteristic and a selected one of the sensed variables. In another embodiment of the invention, a positioner includes a correction circuit for storing a valve attribute affected by one of a set of physical parameters and for receiving a selected one of the set of sensed physical parameters. The correction means compensates a command output from a control circuit as a function of the sensed physical parameter and the stored valve characteristic. In another embodiment, the positioner includes a benchset control circuit which ramps the control pressure between an initial control pressure and a final control pressure and back to the initial control pressure, while sampling specific control pressures and their corresponding positions, in order to provide an output indicating the proper spring preload force on an actuator spring.

摘要: An improved flow meter and sensor body therefor, the body having a strain relief portion. A housing of the flow meter defines a fluid flow passage and a sensor body opening. A sensor body mounting portion is mounted to the housing. A sensor body sensor supporting portion is in the fluid flow passage, and supports flow sensor transducers in the fluid flow. The sensor body relief portion is intermediate the sensor body mounting and supporting portions, in the sensor body opening, and adapted to relieve induced strain from external vibration, whereby the flow meter is substantially insensitive to external vibration.

摘要: A method of diagnosing a temperature sensing system having a temperature sensor, a field processing module coupled to the temperature sensor, a bitbus, a fieldbus, and an auxiliary processing module communicating with the bitbus and the fieldbus. The method includes generating a temperature characteristic at the temperature sensor, processing the temperature characteristic at the field processing module, and generating field operating data including a temperature diagnostic parameter as a function of the temperature characteristic. The method also includes communicating the field operating data including the temperature diagnostic parameter over the bitbus from the field processing module to the auxiliary processing module, generating at the auxiliary processing module auxiliary field data as a function of the received field operating data, and communicating the auxiliary field data over the fieldbus.
