Abstract: A method for making a component includes the steps of providing a preform formed of carbon fibers. A first densification is performed forming a carbon composite. A first hardening of the carbon composite is performed. The method machines the carbon composite to form a shape. The method then performs a second densification and a second hardening. The method then final machines the carbon composite to form a final shape of the component.

Abstract: A bleed valve includes a housing with an inlet coupled to an outlet by a duct, a guide tube with an orifice fixed in the housing between the inlet and the outlet, a piston, and baffle. The piston is slideably supported on the guide tube and is movable between an open and a closed position, the duct fluidly coupling the inlet and outlet in the open position, the duct fluidly separating the inlet and outlet in the closed position. The orifice fluidly couples the inlet and outlet in the open and closed positions to move piston between the open and closed positions according to differential pressure between the bleed valve inlet and outlet. The baffle is slideably supported by the guide tube to set the differential pressure at which the piston moves between the open and closed positions. Gas turbines and differential pressure adjustment methods are also described.

Abstract: A valve assembly includes a piston housing inside a flow duct between an inlet and an outlet so as to form an annular flow passage between the flow duct and the piston housing. The piston housing is axially aligned with a center axis of the flow duct. A piston is inside the piston housing and is configured to extend downstream of the piston housing in a closed position. A spring biases the piston to the open position. A fluid chamber is between the piston and an upstream end of the piston housing. A control opening extends through the upstream end of the piston housing and fluidically communicates with the flow duct and the fluid chamber. A control piston and a control spring are inside the piston housing. The control spring biases the control piston toward a first position that obstructs the control opening.

Abstract: A bleed valve includes a housing. The housing includes an inlet and an outlet with a cylindrical flow path defined between the inlet and the outlet. A diametral plane is defined diametrically spanning the cylindrical flow path. A butterfly disc inside the housing is rotatably mounted to the housing along a rotation axis for rotation between an open position and a closed position. A link rotatably is connected to a pivot point on the butterfly disc for relative rotation of the link and the butterfly disc along a pivot axis parallel to the rotation axis. The pivot axis is on an opposite side of the diametral plane from the rotation axis.

Abstract: An inline valve includes a sliding piston having a radially outer stop portion with a forward end. A radially inner sliding portion is connected to the radially outer stop portion by an arm. A housing includes an outer housing body surrounding the piston. The housing has a stop surface selectively in contact with the forward end of the radially outer stop portion of the piston to block flow for a housing inlet to a housing outlet. The radially inner sliding portion slides on a support tube. At least a portion of the radially inner sliding portion is formed of a first material having better wear resistance than a second material forming the outer stop portion of the piston. The second material has a greater resistance to high temperature and pressure than the first material. A vent valve for a compressor is also disclosed.
