Abstract: A method of processing weather data is described that includes receiving, in a vehicle and from a detection system, reflectivity data sampled for a three-dimensional volume of space. The method further includes generating, based on the reflectivity data, a plurality of two-dimensional representations of the reflectivity data. The method further includes transmitting, by a transmission device to a base receiver, a subset of the plurality of two-dimensional representations, wherein each two-dimensional representation of the subset of the plurality of two-dimensional representations comprises a plurality of data points.

Abstract: A ground weather center may transmit information requests that carry at least one meteorological specific triggering command. An airborne system may translate the triggering command into detectable meteorological conditions and may arm the trigger(s) for specific weather sensors accordingly and downlink information upon the airborne system detects the triggering conditions. By using such a triggering command, the airborne system may be able transmit the same amount of valuable information with less bandwidth by reducing the number of redundant downlinked packets.

Abstract: A method and system for downloading aeronautical data using an automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) is provided. The method comprises creating a first data sequence structure that includes a receive time for each of one or more received ADS-B messages; creating a second data sequence structure that includes a packet time for each of one or more received aeronautical data packets that are without position information; mapping the received aeronautical data packets respectively to the ADS-B messages by comparing the receive time for each of the received ADS-B messages with the packet time for each of the received aeronautical data packets to produce a correlation between the ADS-B messages and the aeronautical data packets; and deriving position information for each of the received aeronautical data packets from each correlation between an ADS-B message and an aeronautical data packet.

Abstract: Systems and methods for weather information management are provided. In one embodiment, a method for weather information management comprises: determining at a ground based weather collection station when a first set of aircraft collected weather data is available for transfer from a first aircraft based on a new weather data disclosure message received from the first aircraft; determining whether the first set is cumulative to a second set of aircraft collected weather data based on the new weather data disclosure message; evaluating at least a first communication datalink for suitability for transferring the first set based on a data size indicated in the new weather data disclosure message; and when the first set is not cumulative and the first datalink is suitable: selecting the first communication datalink; and transmitting a weather data request in response to the new weather data disclosure message, the request indicating the first datalink.

Abstract: In some examples, a system for transmitting a location of an ownship vehicle is configured to be mounted on the ownship vehicle and includes a positioning system configured to receive positioning signals. In some examples, the system also includes a cellular transceiver, a surveillance transceiver, and processing circuitry configured to determine a position of the ownship vehicle based on the positioning signals. In some examples, the processing circuitry is further configured to determine that the ownship vehicle is located in an identified risk volume based on the position of the ownship vehicle and to cause the surveillance transceiver and the cellular transceiver to simultaneously transmit surveillance signals and cellular signals indicating the position of the ownship vehicle in response to determining that the ownship vehicle is located in the identified risk volume.

Abstract: A method for processing weather data, where the method includes receiving, at a vehicle and from a base station, a request for weather data, wherein the request comprises an indication of a specified location in space for the weather data. The method further includes determining two or more parameters, wherein a first parameter of the two or more parameters comprises a distance between the vehicle and the specified location in space. The method further includes calculating a confidence level based on the two or more parameters, wherein the confidence level indicates an estimated accuracy for the weather data obtained from the vehicle. The method further includes determining whether the confidence level exceeds a threshold level and determining whether to transmit the weather data to the base station based on whether the confidence level exceeds the threshold level.
