    Abstract: A communications method and apparatus that relate to the field of communications technologies, to resolve a problem that a terminal frequently performs TAU because a TAU mechanism of a conventional cellular network is directly used in a non-terrestrial network, thereby increasing energy consumption of the terminal. The method includes: receiving, by a terminal device, tracking area information from an access network device, and determining, based on a second tracking area identity, whether to perform the TAU. The tracking area information includes a first tracking area identity and a second tracking area identity, where the first tracking area identity is a tracking area identity of a first cell, and the second tracking area identity is used by the terminal device to perform the tracking area update TAU. The method is used in a location management process of the terminal.

    Abstract: A communication method and a device are described to compress and decompress a data packet including an ethernet header to reduce radio transmission resources of an air interface. The communication method includes determining, by a sending device, a to-be-sent data packet. The to-be-sent data packet is a data packet including an ethernet header. The method further includes determining, by the sending device, a field to be compressed in the header of the to-be-sent data packet; and compressing, by the sending device, the header of the to-be-sent data packet according to a preset method. The preset method includes: removing the field to be compressed from the header of the data packet, or replacing the field to be compressed with a corresponding short field; and sending, by the sending device, a data packet obtained after the compressing.
