Abstract: A turbine housing for a two-wheel air cycle machine includes a first side of the turbine housing, a second side of the turbine housing, a central axis, an outer housing portion, an inner housing portion, a plurality of struts between the inner housing portion and the outer housing portion and a plurality of cooling slots between the plurality of supports. The outer housing portion includes an inner surface, an outer surface, a cooling inlet extending from the outer surface of the outer housing portion and a cooling outlet opposite the cooling inlet and extending from the outer surface of the outer housing portion. The inner housing portion includes a thrust bearing support surface substantially parallel to the second side of the turbine housing and a journal bearing bore extending between the first side of the turbine housing and the thrust bearing support surface.

Abstract: An air cycle machine includes a housing, a scavenging turbine, and an ambient air fan. The housing has an exterior wall defining an overboard air inlet, an ambient air inlet, and an ambient air outlet. The scavenging turbine is arranged within the housing, is supported for rotation about a rotation axis, and is in fluid communication with the overboard air inlet. The ambient air fan is arranged within the housing, is supported for rotation about the rotation axis within the housing, and has a radially inner spoked portion and radially outer bladed portion. The bladed portion of the ambient air fan fluidly couples the ambient air inlet to the ambient air outlet and the spoked portion of the ambient air fan fluidly couples the scavenging turbine to the ambient air fan within the housing. Environmental control systems and fluid communication methods are also described.

Abstract: A fan rotor for a ram air fan includes a hub and blades extending radially outwards from the hub. The hub includes an inner hub portion, a disk portion connected to a radially outer surface of the inner hub portion, and an outer hub portion connected to a radially outer surface of the disk portion. The outer hub portion has an upstream arm with a compound contoured surface. The compound contoured surface is configured to direct air flow around the compound contoured surface and along roots of the blades.

A second duct in the second housing portion is adjacent the second end of the housing with an air inlet and an air outlet. The housing further includes a bolt hole positioned in the second end of the housing, and a rib extending between the first housing portion and the second housing portion. The rib is aligned with the bolt hole.

Abstract: A seal plate for an air cycle machine includes a substantially disk-shaped body having a first side configured to be coupled to a compressor housing of the air cycle machine and a second side configured to be coupled to a turbine housing of the air cycle machine. The seal plate also includes a timing pin slot configured to align the first side of the seal plate with the compressor housing. The seal plate further includes a plurality of fastener holes distributed radially in an asymmetric pattern. The plurality of fastener holes includes an alignment fastener hole configured to align the second side of the seal plate with the turbine housing. An angular offset between the alignment fastener hole and the timing pin slot is about 38.45 degrees.
