Abstract: Fluid delivery devices with passive or pressure-based control valves are described. For example, a fluid delivery device may include a fluid path, a pressure source fluidically coupled to a fluid source storing a fluid, and a pressure-based control valve arranged in the fluid path and configured to move in an opening direction in response to a fluid delivery pressure applied by the pressure source in an upstream portion of the fluid path against the pressure-based control valve, in which the pressure control valve is in an open configuration responsive to the fluid delivery pressure being equal to or greater than a cracking pressure. In some embodiments, the pressure-based control valve may be or may include a bourdon tube. Other embodiments are described.

Abstract: An on-body drug delivery device may have one or more antennas secured outside a housing of the on-body drug delivery device for facilitating wireless communications. The one or more antennas may be secured to an adhesive pad that adheres the on-body drug delivery device to a user. Alternatively, the one or more antennas may be secured to a portion of the housing for the on-body drug delivery device. In such instances, the one or more antennas may pass through one or more holes in the housing to facilitate an electrical connection with a component, like a wireless communications transceiver, inside the housing. Alternatively, wireless communications with the one or more antennas and the component may be used.

Abstract: A wearable drug delivery device that can deliver high volumes of liquid drugs stored in one or more corresponding containers to a patient is provided. The wearable drug delivery device can include first and second containers to store first and second liquid drugs, respectively. A first set of energy transfer spheres can be coupled to a first spring and a first plunger positioned within the first container. A second set of energy transfer spheres can be coupled to a second spring and a second plunger positioned within the second container. The first spring can expand to advance the first set of energy transfer spheres and the first plunger to expel the first liquid drug for delivery to the patient. The second spring can expand to advance the second set of energy transfer spheres and the second plunger to expel the second liquid drug for delivery to the patient.

Abstract: Drug delivery systems with reduced hold-up volumes are provided. The drug delivery systems include a cartridge configured to hold a liquid drug. A cartridge stopper is positioned in a first portion of the cartridge. A needle guide component is positioned within the cartridge stopper. A needle is positioned within a central opening of the needle guide. A plunger is positioned in a second portion of the cartridge. The plunger includes a fluid path pocket facing and aligned with the central opening of the needle guide component. The plunger is driven toward the cartridge stopper to expel the liquid drug from the cartridge through the needle. An end of the needle can be positioned within the fluid path pocket when the plunger is pushed against the cartridge stopper, ensuring that only a small volume of the liquid drug remains in the cartridge when delivery of the liquid drug is completed.

Abstract: A fluid flow regulator of a fluid delivery system that can adjust a flow rate of a liquid drug dispensed from a liquid drug container to a user is provided. The fluid flow regulator can be coupled to an end of the liquid drug container. The fluid flow regulator can include a compliance plate and a flow channel selector plate having a fluid flow channel. The flow channel selector plate can be rotated relative to the compliance plate and the liquid drug container to expose a selected portion of the fluid flow channel to openings in the compliance plate that are in fluid communication with the liquid drug stored in the liquid drug container. The selected portion of the fluid flow channel can correspond to a corresponding flow resistance of the liquid drug through the fluid flow channel, thereby regulating the flow of the liquid drug to the user.

Abstract: Disclosed are systems, processes and techniques implementable in and by medical devices that utilize the subcutaneous region of the skin. In the disclosed examples, an insertion mechanism is provided that inserts a cannula or sensing element into the subcutaneous region of the skin a first distance and retracts the inserted cannula or sensing element a second distance that is smaller than the first distance to create a cavity below the inserted cannula or sensing element. The retracted cannula or sensing element remains inserted in the subcutaneous region of the skin. The cavity provides an area for the effects of a wound response to occur and thereby mitigates possibility of occlusion and/or encapsulation of the inserted cannula or sensing element.
