摘要: This invention relates to solutions of selected organo-metallic compounds ssolved in an organic solvent which are useful for deacidifying a cellulose fiber paper. The paper is treated by means well known in the art, such as dipping or spraying. The organo-metallic compounds useful in this invention are compounds which may be rapidly hydrolyzed to an alkaline material such as lower alkyl compounds of lithium, aluminum, magnesium, gallium, zinc, and mixtures of these compounds. The organic solvent is a liquid which will not react with the organo-metallic compound, dissolve inks, or cause discoloration of other materials usually found in and around printed matter. After the paper is impregnated with the solution the organo-metallic compound remaining on the paper is hydrolyzed to an alkaline material.

摘要: A process for producing sugar from cane includes the step of filtering a sucrose-containing feed juice, which has been obtained from macerated sugar cane, through a first ultrafiltration membrane that has a first molecular weight cutoff. This ultrafiltration step produces a first ultrafiltration permeate and a first ultrafiltration retentate. The first ultrafiltration permeate is filtered through a second ultrafiltration membrane that has a second molecular weight cutoff that is lower than the first molecular weight cutoff. This second ultrafiltration step produces a second ultrafiltration permeate and a second ultrafiltration retentate. The second ultrafiltration permeate is nanofiltered through a nanofiltration membrane, thereby producing a nanofiltration permeate and a nanofiltration retentate. The nanofiltration retentate has a higher concentration of sucrose on a dry solids basis than the feed juice in step (a), and can be used in evaporation and crystallization operations to produce crystals of white sugar. The process can optionally include ion exchange and/or electrodialysis purification steps, prior to or after the nanofiltration step. Recycle syrups can be treated with a chromatographic separator to remove excess invert, ash and color.

摘要: A remote controller user interface for accessing information within a computer system. The remote controller contains a window display area for displaying pictorial, graphical and textual information, and a button bank area for controlling the information displayed within the window display area. In a preferred embodiment, the remote controller is generated by a computer program which permits the user to access information about movies. By selecting the appropriate button of the remote controller, various information is displayed within the window display area of the remote controller, as well as upon the screen of the computer system display device. By use of the remote controller, users with little or no prior computer experience are confronted with a recognizable user interface which permits easy access to information.

摘要: A subsurface antenna system including at least one pair of radiating elements and feed system is buried within a subsurface medium. The radiating elements comprising the system are spaced apart at least one quarter free space wavelength at an operating frequency. The radiating elements are spaced from each other and the feed system provides appropriate relative phase to signals at the elements to produce from the antenna system a directional antenna pattern in free space.

摘要: A microwave antenna comprising a dielectric sheet with a ground conductor on one side and an array of antenna elements on the other side. The elements are connected in shunt by feeder lines which are inclined to the direction of polarization of the antenna. The elements may be fed from a common central feed point. A suitable pattern of feeder lines comprises a plurality of parallel regularly-spaced lines inclined at a given angle to the direction of polarization and intersected by a single feeder line inclined at a mirror-inverted angle to the direction of polarization. The feeder lines are suitably of much higher impedance than the elements. Power tapering across the antenna apertures giving good polar diagrams is readily obtainable with such an arrangement.
