    摘要: Techniques for automatically adding a database device to a network of database devices include sending a first request from the database device in response to detecting that the database device is connected to the network. In response, the database device receives data that identifies a database device-management server. The database device sends a second request to the database device-management server. The second request identifies the database device and requests that the device-management server register the database device in response to the second request. The new database device may be a database appliance having a database process and a special purpose operating system tailored to the database process. With these techniques, a new database device can be plugged into a network and automatically discovered, registered, and assigned management tasks without human intervention. This alleviates the load on human operators and makes adding database device to a network more reliable and simple.

    摘要: Techniques for provisioning databases for users on a wide area network such as the Internet include a first party managing one or more database systems. Second parties subscribe to database services supported by the managed database systems. The first party provides, over a network, to database applications of the second parties, access to database services to which the second parties are subscribed. The database systems may use database appliances hosting both database process(es), and non-database process(es) tailored to the needs of the database process(es). A user is therefore able to obtain database resources from an Internet Database Service Provider (IDSP) without incurring the full costs of database administrator(s), dedicated database equipment facilit(ies), or even dedicated database device(s), depending on usage. Meanwhile, the IDSP incurs minimum staffing loads because of self-service tools. Costing model and automatic billing are also described.

    摘要: This is directed to a power adapter plug arm manufactured from a single piece of material. The plug arm can include a plug operative to extend into a wall socket, an elongated plate coupled to an end of the plug such that the plug extends from a first surface of one end of the plate, and a pin coupled to the opposite end of the plate and extending from the opposite surface of the plate. The pin can be operative to engage a circuit board of the power adapter to provide power received from the wall socket to an electronic device coupled to the power adapter. To enhance the strength of the plug arm, the plate can be manufactured by creating a co-axial plug and a stem from a single piece of material, bending the stem, and cold heading the bent portion of the stem to form a plate. Because the cold heading process involves cold working the material, the arm and in particular the bridge member at the interface between the plate and the stem can become stronger as a result of the manufacturing process.

According to another aspect, internal terminals used by a power adapter plug of a power adapter can be flexibly positioned on the power adapter plug, thereby facilitating interconnection with electrical components used by the power adapter.A molded base can be formed around the metal base leaving the blade and terminals exposed.

    摘要: Isothermal semiconductor(s) forming a conductive bridge at the two junctions of the of a thermoelectric circuit legs are used to produce an increase the Seebeck coefficient of the circuit. For the circuit legs, a p- and n-type semiconductor pair is preferred in which the valence and conduction bands of the n-type are higher in energy (i.e. having a lower electron affinity) than those of the p-type leg. The isothermal semiconductor may be either p- or n-type. If it is n-type, its conduction band lies below (i.e. having a higher electron affinity) that of the n-type leg, and if it is a p-type material, its valence band lies above (i.e. having a lower electron affinity) that of the p-type leg. This arrangement results in an increase thermal conversion efficiency in comparison to the corresponding TE circuit that does not have the isothermal semiconductor present.
