    摘要: This invention suppresses power consumption in an image forming apparatus using an electron-emitting device. For this purpose, an image forming apparatus has a plurality of electron-emitting devices, a light-emitting substance for emitting light by irradiation of electrons emitted by the electron-emitting devices, a first potential application means for sequentially selecting the plurality of electron-emitting devices and applying, to a selected electron-emitting device, a predetermined potential different from a potential applied to an unselected electron-emitting device, and a second potential application means for applying a potential corresponding to an image signal to at least a selected electron-emitting device. In this image forming apparatus, when the light-emitting substance is not required to emit light by irradiation of electrons from the selected electron-emitting device, a voltage applied to the selected electron-emitting device is set around the threshold of emission/non-emission of the light-emitting substance by irradiation of electrons from the electron-emitting device.

    摘要: A device for detecting the positional relationship between first and second objects in a predetermined direction includes a light source for emitting light in a direction to the first or second object, and a first detecting portion for detecting the position of incidence of a first light deflected by the first and second objects, wherein the position of incidence of the first light upon the first detecting portion is changeable with a change in the positional relationship between the first and second objects in the predetermined direction. A second detecting portion detects the position of incidence of a second light deflected by at least one of the first and second objects, wherein the state of the position of incidence of the second light resulting from a change in the positional relationship between the first and second objects, in the predetermined direction differs from that of the first light. On the basis of the detection by the first and second detecting portions, the positional relationship between the first and second objects is detected without being affected by an inclination thereof.

    摘要: An information data transmission system deals with a plurality of kinds of information data different in quantity from one another and respectively corresponding to prescribed amounts of an information signal. The system has first encoding circuitry for encoding the plurality of kinds of information data and second encoding circuitry for predictively encoding the plurality of kinds of information data. The timing of the production of outputs from the first and second encoding circuits is such that, for all kinds of the plurality of information data, the quantity of information data encoded by the first encoding circuitry is equalized.
