Abstract:
The invention relates to novel methods and kits for treating or preventing disease through the administration of random copolymers comprising amino acids tyrosine (Y), phenylalanine (F), alanine (A), and lysine (K). The invention also relates to the treatment of autoimmune diseases, such as multiple sclerosis, and to the administration of random copolymers in treatment regimen comprising formulations that are administered at intervals greater than 24 hours, or to sustained release formulations which administer the copolymer over a period greater than 24 hours. The invention further relates to methods for conducting a pharmaceutical business comprising manufacturing, licensing, or distributing kits containing or relating to the formulations or dosing regimens of random copolymer described herein.
Abstract:
A data-driven, hierarchical information navigation system and method enable search of sets of documents or other materials by certain common attributes that characterize the materials. The invention includes several aspects of a data-driven, hierarchical navigation system that employs this navigation mode. The navigation system of the present invention includes features of an interface, a knowledge base and a taxonomy definition process and a classification process for generating the knowledge base, a graph-based navigable data structure and method for generating the data structure, World Wide Web-based applications of the system, and methods of implementing the system. Users are able to search or browse a particular collection of documents by selecting desired values for the attributes. A data-driven, hierarchical information navigation system and method enable this navigation mode by associating terms with the materials, defining a set of hierarchical relationships among the terms, and providing a guided search mechanism based on the relationship between the terms. In another aspect of the invention, implementations of the invention may be scalable through parallel or distributed computation. Implementations of the invention may employ master and slave servers in a hierarchical configuration.
Abstract:
A system is disclosed including a transmitter and receiver for the communication of security codes which may be validated at the receiver to operate equipment. In one embodiment, the transmitter transmits a security code at two frequencies contemporaneously to the receiver which may receive both frequencies and resolve the security code therefrom. The receiver may lock onto one frequency to the exclusion of the other frequency when parts of a security code are detected. In another embodiment, the transmitter selectively transmits security codes at a default frequency which is selected because of a recorded count of prior apparent successful transmission.
Abstract:
Described are an apparatus and method for blind mating electrical connectors. A connector-alignment collar includes a frame with a multi-sided base portion. The sides of the base portion define an area within which to receive a connector closely. A guide cantilever extends substantially perpendicularly from the base portion at a first side of the frame, and an alignment cantilever extends substantially perpendicularly from the base portion at a second side of the frame opposite the first side. The connector-alignment collar is placed around a first electrical connector on a first circuit board. The alignment cantilever is inserted into an alignment hole in the second circuit board while a guide notch in an edge of the second circuit board is urged against the guide cantilever. After the alignment cantilever is inserted into the alignment hole in the second circuit board, the first electrical connector on the first circuit board mates with the second electrical connector on the second circuit board.
Abstract:
An electro-hydraulic control unit includes a valve body having a recess formed in a surface thereof and a circumferential wall which extends around the recess. The wall includes at least one widened portion. An electronic control Unit is mounted over the recess. The electronic control unit carries a circuit substrate which extends over the widened portion of the valve body wall such that widened portion of the valve body wall forms a heat for an electronic component carried by the circuit substrate. Additionally, components mounted on upon the circuit substrate, including a motor connector extending into the recess. A pump motor is mounted upon the valve body surface opposite from the electronic control unit. An electrical connector extends from the motor through a bore formed in the valve body and connects to the motor connector mounted upon the circuit substrate.
Abstract:
A yo-yo includes an outer ring, a support arm extending inwardly from the outer ring and a disc supported within the outer ring by the support arm. In addition, a region on the outer ring adjacent the support arm is thinner then another region on the outer ring opposite the support arm to compensate for any additional weight defined by the support arm. Furthermore, the outer ring is defined as having a cavity and the disc has an overall shape smaller then the cavity such that the disc appears to be suspended within the outer ring.
Abstract:
A hand-operated cleaning system includes an ON/OFF control unit snap-on mountable onto a pressurized container having a valve stem for delivering cleaning liquid. This control unit includes an outer cap with resilient fingers adapted to snap-grip engage and mount the control unit onto a top rim of the container. An inner cap is mounted within the outer cap for ON/OFF helical turning movement so that turning the inner cap in the ON direction depresses the valve stem for releasing pressurized liquid from its container, and turning it in the OFF direction stops such release. A fluid passageway extends from the valve stem through the inner cap to a length of flexible tubing coupled to the inner cap and extending to a remotely-located, hand-held applicator wand. This applicator wand has a fluid passageway communicating with the flexible tubing for providing a path through the wand to its nozzle end. A valve is positioned in the wand for operation by a button actuator. Depressing this button actuator by a user's thumb or forefinger opens the valve for delivering fluid out through an axial bore of the nozzle. A brush is mountable in the nozzle bore so that solvent dispensed through the nozzle bore for brushing application of dispensed liquid onto a surface to be cleaned. The button-actuated valve is spaced away from the end of the elongated nozzle for enabling the nozzle and brush to reach into places of difficult access.
